Question re. Command Cards

By ShiningLovePig, in Imperial Assault Rules Questions

Greetings - bought the game yesterday & am perusing the rules

It's probably obvious, but I'm not completely clear as to how one builds a Command Deck - I know deployment decks are built without the knowledge of your opponent, but if you're choosing Command cards from what is initally a common deck, do both players do this simultaneously? Or does the player with initiative get to go first?

Much appreciated folks

Each player builds his own command deck of 15 cards/15 points. You just draw from your own deck.

Thanks for the reply - are both decks built at the same time in full view of each other?

No your opponent shouldn't see it. Most people build their squads and decks before the event, tournament etc. starts.

I think the OP's question regards two players setting up a friendly game.

They have the all cards to choose from when building the command deck.

What is the sequence to how they draw the cards for their command decks from the pool of cards?

I have the same question, as I just started to play.

1 idea:

Player #1 could choose a card and pass the whole pool deck to the other player #2 who chooses a card and returns pool deck... Back and forth until they have completed building the command decks for each player.

Any other ideas?

Assuming you're splitting the contents of a single core set for a friendly skirmish:

There are a bunch of cards that you can only use one of but get two copies of in the core set. Start by splitting those up. Then, assuming there isn't crossover in what figures the players are going to use, give each player the cards that only his figures can use (cards for unique figures, cards limited to a certain faction, etc.). Any remaining cards, take turns picking. Then build your command deck from among the cards you have available to you.

If you're playing in a tournament (or casually if both players have their own stuff), you build your command deck secretly within the normal parameters: 15 cards worth up to 15 points, with limits to how many of a specific card can be used.

Thanks, that's a great reply!
