This was my first official X-wing function and I had no idea how the scoring system worked.
My squad: 2B's with Advanced sensors. 2 Z95's. Tarn with R7. Total 99 points.
There was three other players and all of them were great guys. Only one had previous championship experience.
My first game was against 3 B's with autoblasters and accuracy correct. We decided to joust and on the first turn of combat he destroyed one Z95 from range three...ouch. I don't want to go into every detail with this report. Anyways he had no problem flying through asteroids this game and all other games he played that night. I messed up by not brining all of my forces up to get shots during the first round of combat and I hate doing that. He won but just barely. If we had finished the game I'm certain I would have won by a pretty big margin.
Lessons learned: You only get a short amount of time haha and that accuracy correctors helped him out a bunch.
*Important* - The other two players didn't score any points. Neither lost a single ship. Falcon and YT2400 vs. 4 scum Y-wings*
I then played against Lando in the Falcon and some type of YT2400.
Not much to say about this game. My main goal was to take out just one of his loaded ships. I knew if I could do that then I would win. My original target was the YT2400 but later the Falcon provided a better target. The Falcon landed on an asteroid and because of my blocking stayed on it for another two turns. It finally burst into flames giving me much needed points for the win.
Next was 4 Scum Y-wings with BTL4, ion cannons, agromechs. I thought I could go head to head with him but that wasn't the best decision. I just didn't want to get a ship ioned off the table. His ships acted like machine guns. They tore up the other guys list of three Bwings really quick.
I honestly cant remember who won but the points were close either way.
When the dust settled I tied for first with the Owen the gentleman using the 4 Y-wings. The TO told us to vote for who should get the first place prize out of us two. Owen got all three of our votes because if he had more time they first game, he would have taken out the Falcon and YT2400 in one turn.
I left with a fancy dark red range ruler, 3 alternate PTL cards, and a dice bag.
Tarn was never fired at once. Might replace him for Biggs or play him a lot more aggressively.
I don't like the scoring system yet I don't have a better solution. I also might replace the Z's for another B-wing or Biggs. I didn't realize how mentally taxing several games in a row are. I couldn't imagine playing in a big tournament.
Lots of fun.
Lessons learned: Go to small championships for cool stuff! Haha.
