So, played my first game

By Westonard, in Star Wars: Armada

Played my first game with my little brother. i had gotten one of each main ship expansion that came with the core set, then two gladiators, and two Assault frigates. I played Imperial, he was Rebel with 300 points each. I am positive that I screwed up a few times, or he did. But: What i had was a VSD II with Dominator, Tarkin, Leading Shots, and Enhanced Armament, so I was firing 3 red 3 Blue at medium range on the front, 3 red 1 blue, and if I wanted to burning two shields on the facings my brother wasn't going to get to to give myself two more blue dice on the side shots, then burning one blue from either facing for re rolls from Leading shots. Second ship was a Gladiator II with Motti, Demolisher, Advanced Concusion Missiles, and Nav team and really none of that came into play all that much from the third turn on other than the ACM. Followed up by Howlrunner and 3 squads of regular ties.

My little brother's list was..bad. Two Assault Frigates, one of which was Garm Iblis, Gallant Haven, with Flight Controller,s the other had a gunnery team and a veteran captain, finally a Nebulon B escort with Yavaris and Antilles. I think he was going for a squadron heavy thing, but wound up only having enough points for 1 A wing squad, 1 B Wing, and 1 X Wing.

To make things worse for him he had the Gallant Haven and Yavaris too spread out, so I was able to send the Demolisher after the Gallant Haven, and the Dominator to tangle with the other assault frigate and Yavaris, he hugged the edge of the board with the Haven, so my Demolisher actually got in his way so he couldn't really maneuver without ramming into me which he was reluctant to do. So, it wound up with him stuck there complaining and ignoring the choice to ram me and keep going to get away. Which allowed my Demolisher to shred his Gallant Haven since he could only fire from the front and I was situated to hit from a broad side and the front, which meant he really couldn't chew through my shields when I was able to spend tokens I was getting from Tarkin to repair them.

The other frigate was pretty much just as bad off against the Dominator because it didn't have the fire power to attack it, and the Nebulon is not a gun ship and he was trying to play it safe to avoid making it a target over the other assault frigate.

Honestly I think that he screwed up really bad by not keeping the Gallant Haven moving around, playing with his maneuverability, and taking three heavy ships meant that his squadron build didn't really work since he didn't have enough ships to really make a difference, and he didn't keep them close to the Gallant Haven to take advantage of the -1 damage, and the Yavaris didn't stick near the Haven and the squadrons for the free attacks.

Either way total victory for the Empire

Edit: We also had the objective Precision Shots, so I was doing slightly less damage over all, but turning face down crits face up. Also I just lost two standard tie squadrons, while he lost everything.

Hmmmm I sense an issue regarding having to many commanders. . .

Glad to see you gat a game in, I do want to point out though you may have ONLY ONE COMMANDER, for your entire fleet, so tarkin or mottie but not both.

Carry on

HAPPY GAME ONE, Westonard!!! Get back at it soon man. Keep gaining that familiarity. You be a Moff in no time.

Fair enough, however honestly Motti made no difference in game, as nothing was able to get through the shields, opponent wasn't rolling enough dice. But, I will know for suture games..

To be honest, setting aside my goof with having both Motti and Tarkin, the VSD II Dominator with its guns seems like a decent flag ship option assuming I can take advantage of the re rolling dice, and getting extra blue and red dice on the broadsides.

Never mourn a victory for the Empire.

That said, I think the evidence is conclusive. You're going to have to eat your brother to save him from himself.

I recommend some Worcestershire sauce as humans can be a bit gamey.
