Star Wars Customizable Card Game - How to organise your cards?

By galantini, in Star Wars: The Card Game - Organized Play

Hi everyone,

I've only just started to collect these cards and learn how to play the game - which is so much fun. Thanks to ebay and other card dealers, I have quite rapidly acquired the majority of the Premiere collection as well as starting to venture into the other sets.

I am just wondering where I begin when it comes to keeping my collection organised. I have bought a couple of large A4 ring binders and dozens of packs of card-holder sheets to go inside. These are almost fully filled now, but this is due to having so many duplicates (in some cases too many - 11 rebel troopers for gods sake).

I am currently organising my cards by light / dark side and then within each, the card categories; characters, locations, interupts etc.

Have you guys got any tips for keeping your cards organised according to their individual collections and how you keep all the duplicates safe and fairly organised too?

It sounds like you've got a different game: Star Wars: Collectible Card Game put out by Decipher (now defunct) in 1995--nothing has been officially produced for that game in almost 15 years. This site/forum is for Fantasy Flight's Star Wars: The Card Game (aka the living card game or lcg). It can be confusing as there have been a number of Star Wars themed card games over the years.

Many people like the Star Wars: Collectible Card Game that it sounds like you have. I got into it at it's inception, and enjoyed it. I also really liked the Wizards of the Coast Star Wars: Trading Card Game, although I appear to be in the minority, a game put out between Star Wars Episodes 2 and 3 (2002-2005). Both games still have fan support (most especially the CCG). Confused yet?

As to this game (the lcg), it is much more user-friendly and streamlined than the CCG. Also, besides the fact that new content is being released, sets come complete--you don't have to buy boxes of boosters to get the main characters, ships, and so on (Star Wars CCG was particularly egregious about this). In the CCG, the thing I liked about it least was that there could be many games with little interaction between the players. For example, the light side could have a character deck with Luke, Obi-Wan, and so on, and the dark side could have a deck with Star Destroyers and TIE Fighters, and there would be no battles or anything all game. For Decipher's TCG, many people didn't like the dice (I had no problem with it). Finally, with this game, some people knock it for how it can sometimes be thematically jarring (an X-wing vs a Rancor, for example) and it has some layers of abstraction to fit the theme. It has been argued that this game, the lcg, is better suited to casual than competitive play, but I've never been part of a tournament for it and think that may be a bit over-hyped.

Good luck and I hope you like the game you have or find one that suits your preferences!
