Choose your own adventure - 300 pt Empire Builds

By horsepire, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Hi there,

Gonna play a 300 pt game with Wave 1 for the first time tonight and trying to decide between two similar lists. I've only done the learn to play a couple of times so I'm not too sure how some of this stuff works, or what strategies might be most effective - which is why I'm here!

Fleet 1

Objectives - ???

VSD II (85) + Screed (26) + Chiraneau (10) + expanded hangar (5) = 126

Glad II (62) + engine techs (8) + assault (7) + Demolisher (10) = 87

2 * Tie Advanced = 24

1 * Fel = 18

1 * TIE Int = 11

1 * Rhymer = 16

1 * T/B = 9

Total: 291

Fleet 2

Objectives - ???

Same as above, except instead of the VSD-II, a VSD I with expanded launchers.

Total: 292

My opponent has two core sets, a fighter pack, and an AF-II at his disposal. I like the damage potential of the second fleet, but am worried he might be able to stay at long range and pick me apart. Does Rhymer solve that problem on his own? VSD-II instead?

I'm just excited to play but any tips are welcome!

Your second fleet is IMHO inferior to the first one. VSD I rarely uses its front arc black dice.

Kind of what I figured, but good to know!

I have some experience with the VSD carrier, GSD demolisher archetype.

I like it. Your version, IMO, is a little fighter heavy. The VSD can only command 5 with a token, four without. Consider combining the two advanceds into DV and using the points to make the bomber an advanced. - or losing a fighter and getting other upgrades.

I'd also strongly suggest flight controllers on the carrier.

Do flight controllers come with the VSD individual pack?

Yes.

Well, I ended up going with the first list, unchanged because I didn't have time to totally rework the list. But it worked well, I ended up winning in a landslide due to some poor choices from my opponent.

I actually totally botched the Fel/Advanced combo (Range 1 is way shorter than you think!) and Fel almost got sniped by a couple of A-Wings, and later fell (no pun intended) to some anti-squad fire from an assault frigate, but Rhymer and his crew were incredible. They did quite a bit of damage to an assault frigate and racked up a bunch of points for me under the Superior Positions objective. I only ended up using Chiraneau once, but my opponent didn't go super fighter-heavy and didn't group the five squadrons he did have.

The Gladiator was pretty nuts, especially with Screed.

I'll probably play this list again with a few tweeks. I don't have the Victory expansion so I may have to get on that.

Don't forget to pre-measure. It's a life saver
