The "Mak" Problem!!!

By JA_42, in Imperial Assault Campaign

Hello,

maybe I'm the only one, but Mak is pretty fu...ng incredible and impossible to kill him!

especially during some missions...

I explain :

- his power allow him to move as a react, if imperial are close to him (distance less than 3)

- He can't be target when distance is more than 3...

:)

of course, in tiny map, it's not a big problem... and not a problem when imperial can enter in many points of the map, means behind Mak...

In this cases, it's just difficult!

but, in large map, with few imperial "pop" zone, it's pretty impossible

my example is with last mission (imperial version)...

I try in the first round, in first room: with 2 unit (RG and elite trooper), but 1 life point left... :(

after, pretty impossible (Weiss's AT ST is kill in 1 turn, even Darth Vader can't resist of the rebel's ATST) until last zone, where my tradoshan try, but can't wound it... conclusion, Mak was the last unwounded rebel, and they won :(

It's really difficult to wounded it, cause many conditions must be present (size of map, number of troops to wound in one round, distance, ...)... Please FFG, create some capability to limit this capability (maybe, if some dommages occur this turn, could become visible to anyone until end of turn for example? Or visible to other figures in the same deployement card?)

Am I the only imperial with this feeling?

Mak with Disengage is certainly a hard target to pin down, so Imperials who are going for a wound-everyone victory will have to use solid tactics to deal with his abilities. The easiest way is to get him stunned after he has already activated, so that he can't retreat or be ordered to move away from approaching figures. It's tricky, but it's definitely doable.

Also, in exchange for being so nimble, I think Mak has less potential damage output than almost anyone except Gideon, so it's definitely a trade-off.

My experience as the Imperial has been favorable towards Mak. I've had Rebels try to get him pursuing mission objectives since he's hard to hit, but leave him alone so he's also easy to corner and pick off. When they got wise to this, I just left him alone and focused on other heroes. When he's in range, pick on him a bit, his low health and slow speed makes him rather easy to kill if he 'voluntarily' walks into the fray.

he is always one of the last to survive in my campaigns. I like to rush stormtroopers at him, to force him to disengage. then flank with the fast moving royal guards, and try to stun him

You must be kidding m8 ;)

At engame, he can expect to deal 6-7 damage with 2-3 pierce at range 6+. More if focused. And he got free focus and attack if target is not killed.

He oneshots anything but AT-ST or Vader.

Well, but how much of that damage output is derived from weapons and attachments which could just as easily be given to Fenn? His pierce ability is nice, and he has a few abilities to get some extra damage/focus/attacks in some situations, but it seems to me that Fenn and Jyn's abilities are at least as potent. I'm not saying he can't hurt things, it just seems to me that with so many of his abilities focused on defense or utility, he'll end up not hurting things as much as some of the other primary damage dealers could hurt things.

I'm not saying Fenn is worse or something, but he is different. Fenn have blast, Mak have pierce. If they have same gun and deal 6 hits per shot vs 4 blocks of Vader, Fenn will hit him for 2 x 2 HP (2x3 with weapon expert). Plus possible blast, stun, trench fighter etc.

Mak with pierce 2 can shoot Vader 3 or 4 times per turn and this is 12 to 16 damage plus free focus or two, possibly killing him in one turn.

Fenn have more utility and AoE, Mak is single target damage.

I agree...

but, if mission doesn't allow to trap Mak?

for Example, the last one... just have a look on the map and event : it's pretty impossible to wound him

He is nimble - especially once he gets three actions. But fragile. Later scenarios with higher threat shoud provide enough mooks to get shots on him. He doesn't take too much effort to defeat once he's locked down which can really give the advantage to the Imperial player.

Cheers

What class deck for the imperials did you use?
