I see a people asking to play armada and a few demo games but nothing like xwing for players.
Also i like the dog fighting of xwing and prefer not to play the resource management game of armada. It lost the maneuverable doc fight feel of xwing.

One of my main X-Wing buddies, Captain Gravis, has pretty much bowed out of X-Wing completely in favor of Armada.
I probably won't be playing Armada more than casually, but I'm definitely into it! Painting my little fighter minis and everything. I love Armada.
How much of an impact has Armada had on your X-Wing playgroup?
Zero impact.
About 4 of our group of ~20 have switched...they will play the occasional X-wing game but Armada is their new baby. I think we lost 2-4 people for Regionals due to Armada in our area.
I have a friend who plays X-wing with me (I have purchased all the X-wing stuff) and he has decided to be the one that picks up Armada. We both collect at least one of everything so we can have decent matches. We try to alternate between the two. Honestly I think they're both really fun, and are different enough to co-exist. X-wing's mechanics are a lot different, it players quicker and flying well really matters. Armada satisfies the strategy desire a bit better though. That and it's pretty streamlined, you can tell they've used their X-wing knowledge to iterate on the game design. The only thing I don't like about it is having to pick up squadrons to adjust their health, makes my OCD go off because we're losing some exactness. Thankfully it matters far less in Armada.
In our circle of dudes, me and another guy who were big into x-wing, both have bought full into Imperial Assault and full into Armada. We just get together as much as we can to play flavor of the day. If anything we're torn as to which we'd rather do more! ![]()
Pfft. Armada isn't expensive by any stretch of the imagination. For less than $200 you can field a razor-edge competitive force off Miniature Market. Heck, you could field two.
Do you know what's an expensive hobby? Golf. Miniature gaming is cheap.
Why can't you play both?

... Because you also want to play golf?...
It's all cutting in to xwing. I just don't have the time to play all three (xwing armada and imperial assault) on a regular basis. I can normally get one night a week in for gaming so it's typically a rotation of those three and whatever other game someone wants to play (last night it was roll for the galaxy, highly recommended )

Also airsoft a mates into it he spends hundreds on guns gear and ammo.

Yeah I was looking into it a couple years ago, had a local place that was set up in a old factor. Spent $150 on an ok gun, but you can easily drop a grand or more on the good guns, plus all the toys like lasers, extra mags, web gear, mask, ect...
The cost of Golf is why I play Discgolf now. Much more enjoyable and a whole lot cheaper.
I'm glad this is being mentioned. I haven't seen a dramatic effect, but there has been an effect nonetheless. There are at least 2 or 3 players from our area who made it very apparent they were giving up on x-wing (posted their x-wing stuff for sale on groups facebook page, mentioned it outright, etc.) to turn to Armada.
I worry FFG might be spreading themselves too thin with how closely these games resemble each other. Maybe not strategically, but if you're not racking in loads of cash, and you want to play a space battle game that needs hundreds of dollars of investment, you really only need one of those games.
So there are a few parties who play X-wing. Those with money and time, those with one and not the other, and those with little money and little time. Those with time and money are few, so when it comes down to it, people are forced to either use their limited time or limited cash (or both) on what they enjoy more. And as time goes on, more people are going to try out Armada, and more people are going to prefer to play that over X-wing.
That's just the way I see it at least.
And as time goes on, more people are going to try out Armada, and more people are going to prefer to play that over X-wing.
That's highly debatable. I have Armada and enjoy Armada, but I'm not going to quit X-Wing over it, and I doubt many other people will either.
Armada is a great game, but it is not really a direct competitor for X-Wing, the scale, the time per game, the tactics you use, ect... are all quite different. The main reason someone would give up X-Wing for Armada is because they've been looking for a cap ship game the whole time.
That said, having someone switch from X-Wing to Armada is a net win for FFG, since they'll be buying into a whole new game after having paid $X for their X-Wing stuff already.
Does no one loan models?
My group's generally very open about loaning about cards/ships if the lender is attending the same game night as the lendee (if such a thing exists)
Someone wants to get c3po (could get armada core for same price ) but doesn't have to because we got some folks who have already purchased (and miraculously used) the epic cr90.
Similarly, the armada side has no problem letting people borrow ships or squadrons or even fleets for a few games. It really helps out the community and minimizes buyer's remorse on many products
(when people can contain their excitement and don't preorder, that is)

Oh forgot he got a front tooth broken that cost him £200 to fix aswell.

In my experience yes most people will, or at least cards. I'm planning on starting a monthly Armada game at my LGS, and offered to let anyone who wants to play but doesn't have anything, to use of either my Imperial or Rebel fleet depending on which I'm using.
Which does tempt me to play Imperials just to force our resident Grand Moff, to fly a rebel fleet. ![]()

Ouch both in terms of the pain of mouth, and pain of wallet.
Edited by VanorDMWell he came around the day after and we were eating, I've never seen him in as much pain as when he ate that bit of chicken.
We still mocked him mercilessly of course.
My gaming groups has started investing some money in Armada but it really hasn't effected the X-wing players much. I myself haven't bought anything yet, though that may very well change in future waves, after all, owing a couple of Imperial Class Star Destroyers is very tempting.
BTW, I'm seeing a lot of stuff in this thread that I quite frankly do not understand. Too expensive and no time to play more than one game? Nicht verstehen, förstår inte, no comprende. The words are there but have no meaning. ![]()
Seriously though, I have stuff for X-wing, Warhammer Fantasy, Mordheim, Battlefleet Gothic, Warmachine, Blood Bowl, Flames of War and Warhammer 40k (Two armies). I also used to have two additional Warhammer armies (one fantasy, one 40k), Necromunda and Warhammer Epic and as I mentioned above I just might start playing Armada in the near future. It's usually not a matter of time nor money, but your priorities.
Armarda is already down to £59 imp assault £64 on Amazon and i could probably get it cheaper still elsewhere are you sure you can't find it cheaper in Canada?
95$ CAD is worth around 76$ US, so that price is actually pretty fair.
As for Armada, I'll play my first real game this weekend since I just received my Wave 1 stuff. I only tried a short game using only the Core Set stuff and can already see the value of the game. But, I don't think it will have an impact on my X-Wing groups. My friends that already invested in X-Wing won't bother with a second miniature game, especially when the theme is the same, so I'll have to create a second group and try to convert those that didn't bother with X-Wing. Worst case scenario, Armada will be the occasional Event game.
No it's not. It's fair compared to the US price, but the US price is also way too much. $76 for a game? That's normal now? Forget that -- I can get two very high quality games from another company for that. FFG has priced me out.

I see Armada and Imperial Assault selling for around $66-68 on Amazon. What two games from another publisher are you getting for that (even at $76)? Whatever it is it isn't coming with the same quantity and quality of components.

Calm down a little, I was comparing it to the FFG SRP of 99.95$. 95$CAD is worth 76$US while £59 is worth 90$US. So, Canada have it cheaper.
Now, what is considered a fair price to pay for a game is entirely a personal opinion. Considering all the hours of fun I will have with Armada, I didn't felt robbed when I bought the game, even knowing that the investment won't stop there.
But that's the thing, Armada, just like X-Wing, is a miniature game, not a boardgame. When comparing value, you should do it with other miniature game like Warhammer, Malifaux, Infinity, etc.. not boardgame like City of Horror, Dead of Winter, Cuthroat Caverns, Masquarade, etc...
No impact on me, Armada is Horrifically overpriced. £80 and you get 2 tiny rebel ships and a sub standard Star Destroyer? Really? LOL Where's the Armada?

X Wing isn't really a wargame, and it's not really a board game. It's a weird, but very cool hybrid.
But it's very funny watching the way different players approach the game. Board game players think $76 for a game is expensive. Wargamers think that sort of money is loose change compared to the Games Workshop prices they're used to.

This is so damned true it's not even funny. I'm no big X-wing buyer, one expansion of each ship is usually enough for me, but that still mean I've spent about 400$ on X-wing stuff. In Games Workshop money, that's not even the bare minimum needed to play a full sized battle.

No starter includes a full army for that price it's the starter there to teach you the core rules.
