Gunner + Target lock question

By Tybalt027, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Forgive the noobishness of this question but my friend and I need to settle an argument.

The Gunner crew card allows for a primary weapon attack on a miss.

If you fire a primary weapon, miss, re-roll, miss again, can you then blow a target lock to roll again?

Also, does the defender re-roll green dice for every shot or just the initial?

Gunner acts like a separate attack if the first one was a miss. You can potentially attack a different ship if you wanted.

Red and Green dice are rolled for both attacks. Focus/Target Locks can only be spent in the modify dice step of each attack.

It should look something like this:

First Attack > Red Dice Rolled and Modified > Green Dice Rolled and Modified > Attack Misses

Second Attack > Red Dice Rolled and Modified (can spend your target lock here) > Green Dice Rolled and Modified > Damage

You can only reroll a given die once. Period. You cannot reroll and then reroll again. However, like bmf said, gunner is NOT a reroll, it is an entirely new attack, which you perform after the first attack has been completely resolved (and missed).

Got it. I didn't know if the re-roll from target lock counted as a modification or a second attack.

Target Lock is a modification.

Now unless you have something that would allow you to gain a TL after one attack or you have two TLs a single TL will only modify a single attack. If you use TL on your initial attack you often will not have a TL when you make an attack with Gunner.

This question was in regards to a shuttle/ Decimator build that allows a lot of target locks for free with Gunner. There was a dispute between my opponent and I as to if I was allowed to roll three times and if he could roll three times to defend.

All that is pretty clear now.
