How does the interaction between Mauler Mithel and Gallant Haven work?

Will the Gallant Haven cancel the 1 damage Mithel inflicts provided the rebel fighters he engages are within range 1 of the Gallant Haven?

I'm not sure because of the wording:

Gallant Haven: Before a friendly squadron at distance 1 suffers from an attack, reduce the total damage by 1.

Mauler Mithel: After you move, each squadron engaged with you suffers 1 damage.

Mithels damage doesn't state that it is an attack, just that the engaged squadrons suffer 1 damage, so I'm not sure if Gallant Haven applies.

Thoughts?

Gallant Haven shouldn't apply, since what Mauler is doing isn't an attack it's just an effect that happens to cause damage.

Yeah, I'd say since Mauler isn't doing an "attack" then the damage just isn't reduced.
