Clarify Defence Tokens

By Asmodi, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Hi All

The defence token description has me a little confused.

My understanding was this (based on the couple of demo scenarios I have played.)

Attack Dice Rolled.

Accuracy Rolled.

Defence tokens moved from readied to exhausted once you declare which ones you are using.

Tokens are then discarded.

However having read a little more of the rules im not sure I am correct.

It seems that they are not auto discarded.

Can someone give me the steps for defence tokens and explain when they get discarded.

Thanks

If your defense tokens are green, you can use them and only "exhaust" them, which means they flip to red. At the end of the turn they get flipped back to green at the same time you advance the round token and flip initiative.

If your defense tokens are red, you can use them and "discard" them, which means you throw them in a paper shredder. They're gone for good for the rest of the game.

That part I understand Wonderpug however when would you ever use them when they are Red?

You can only use one of each type once per round so in what scenario would they get discarded?

Where are you getting that you can only use each type once per round?

If two ships are attacking you, you may use a token to defend against the first one and then be desperate enough to want to use it again when the second ship attacks you. There are also cards like Overload Pulse your opponent can use to flip all your tokens to red on the first attack, and I think some critical damage cards prevent you from turning them back to green.

Where are you getting that you can only use each type once per round?

I'm guessing he's misreading/misremembering this bit:

Asmodi, you can only use a type of token once per attack, but you could be attacked multiple times in a round.

A ready (green) defense token that is spent against an attack is exhausted (flipped to it's red side).

An exhausted (red) defense token can still be spent against an attack, but it will be discarded only if it is spent .

At the end of the round, all remaining exhausted defense tokens are readied (flipped to their green side). Discarded defense tokens are gone for good.

Note: a defense token that is already exhausted (red) cannot be exhausted again by cards like Overload Pulse, and so is unaffected.

Edit: the limit is that you can only spend one token of each type once per attack , not once per round.

Ok that makes sense now.

I was taking it as once per round not per attack.

Cheers

I couldn't find this rule. Do you have a reference?

I don't know the exact reference, I imagine it is under exhausting, but exhausting a token means turning it to its red side. If you SPEND a green token you exhaust it, if you SPEND a red token you discard it.

Its specifically under the rule definition for "Exhausting" a token.

As all those effects are worded as "exhaust" the token, it cannot be exhausted again, and thus nothing actually happens.

"Spending" a green token is how it is exhausted. "Spending" an exhausted token is how it is lost.

Defense tokens begin the game on their readied side.

When a readied defense token is spent, it is flipped to

its exhausted side. When an exhausted defense token is

spent, it is discarded.

Exhausted

Cards and defense tokens can be exhausted. Exhausted

cards and defense tokens cannot be exhausted again.

• To exhaust an upgrade card, rotate it 90° clockwise.

• To exhaust a defense token, flip it from its readied side

to its exhausted side.

• When a card or defense token is readied, it is no longer

exhausted.

I'm just going to bump this topic as I'm still a bit confused on defense tokens.

For one, I didn't know you could "SPEND" an exausted token. I'm going to have to look that up.

My question however deals with Tokens and Accuracy.

The nebulan B has 2 brace tokens. If I hit it and have an accuracy rolled, and choose to lock a brace token from being used, the second brace token can still be used right? So it's not useful to lock that until only one exists. Or, if I lock a brace token, does that mean brace cannot be used period for that attack even if the target ship has 2 of them to spend?

Accuracies work on a specific token, not types of tokens. If you prevent one brace from being used he can still use the other one, you would need 2 accuracies to prevent the neb from bracing.
