Portable deflector shield generators

By Blackbird888, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

So I have looked, but there doesn't seem to be rules in any of the books about portable deflector shield generators (such as the ones used by the Gungans) or ground based shields in general (such as on the one at Echo Base). Has anyone written stats for these, or home rules as to how they work?

(I know a lot of the effects of such shields can be used as story elements controlled by the GM, but I'm sure these could be used during mass combat in interesting ways)

Yeah, for the big stuff it's a narrative effect. In both TPM and ESB the solution to shields of that scale is just plain push through it on the ground. So the in game effect would just be "cannot shoot through it" for planetary and probably "cannot move vehicles through it either" for the gungan style thing. In mass combat these would dictate the phases and progression of the battle, as well as the activities available to the attacker. In a lot of cases I suspect a primary objective for the attacker would be to kill the gen.

On a more tactical level I've got a "portable" strong-point shield gen for one of my campaigns. It's got an Enc of 7, is about the size of a medium sized garbage can, takes an action to set up, and provides 2 Ranged Defense to anyone engaged with it. Not amazing, but it's essentially "Hard cover" even when in the open, and while not really intended to move once in place, you can relocate it in a pinch.

I guess that makes sense. I asked because I was statting some of the vehicles from Empire At War/Forces of Corruption and one of the vehicles is a mobile shield generator. I was just wondering if there was a way to implement that mechanically or not.

If you finish statting up the vehicles from Empire at War could you post them on here? I was kinda sad that there weren't any stats for all the cool tanks and stuff that the Alliance had in that game and I'd love to use them in AoR.

I could, but I only just started at statting vehicles, so they're probably pretty amateurish. Most of them I just look at a pre-existing vehicles (like the Imperial tank from Stay on Target) and just modify the weapons accordingly. A few things are total shots in the dark (like encumbrance) or forgone completely (like consumables, sensor range and occasionally price/rarity).

Some of the vehicles I found on a blog. Here's the link: http://bastionkainssweote.blogspot.com/p/shipyard.html

There is the personal deflector shield on pages 183 and 185 that gives defense 2. Just expand that to vehicular scale, and presto! All vehicles within short range have defense 2 against all attacks that come from outside the shield.

It'll work against long-ranged artillery but not against vehicles right up in your face mask.

They will probably be in later books but having something to use until the official ones hit would be nice

If you ask for a portable shield generator in my game, I will simply kill your character off.

Why? They aren't that powerful.
