TIE aces vs Rebel aces

By Timeron Malachi, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So my friend and I have run this match twice, and both times I was brutally flogged by the rebels. The first match I only splashed Tycho and Corran, and that took 3 rounds of concentrated fire.

The second match, I had shields off Ten and Wedge, but didn't splash a single ship.

We talked about giving it one more go, but I am at a loss for how I can even take him out. He said he had no idea how I would do it either.

So, my question is, how would you take out the Rebels with this Imperial squad? My friend playing the Rebels tends to slow roll, counting on his shields to see him through.

Thanks for the advice.

Rebels comes to 200, Imperials to 197.

Seems like your big problem is going to be the large number of ships on the table. That means more arcs to dodge and less space to do it in. Unlike a normal swarm that may have the numbers to spread their arcs around hoping to catch someone like Whisper or Soontir in arc most of those Rebel ships are throwing enough dice that they've got a chance at getting some damage though your agility.

I think you've got a real uphill battle since you've got so many arc dodgers that in the early game your opponent is almost always going to be able to guess where at least one arc dodger will end up and burn it down quickly.

My suggestions:

1) I would demand a bigger play area (epic sized) so you are not cramming all of your ships into a confined area. This way you have a hope of actually arc dodging.

2) If #1 is not an option, bring as many Assault Missiles as possible, even dragging in Bombers as "aces". Group them together with Jonas and aim for a clunky low-agility ship and nuke an area to ash. That should also cause him to focus on the beefier missile caddies so your arc dodgers can try to flank.

3) Be tricksy and equip a couple of large-base ships with Tactical Jammer to act as rolling obstacles to provide cover. That may cause him to prioritize ships you don't care much about to your benefit.

I hope this helps.

You just need more beef. Defenders and Bombers. Or just run a bunch of Tie fighters.

Thanks for the advice, all. I'm definitely going to try the squad on an epic mat. Failing that, I'll see if I can swarm him.
