By RAW, is it really possible to use Scathing Tirade three times in a round

By DevonDs101, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

Hi,

It appears that with Supreme Scathing Tirade (which allows you to use scathing tirade as a maneuver for 1 strain) a player would be able to use it three times in a round. It would cost a lot of strain but it still seems zany?

I have found that when things in this system seem out of whack, I am often missing something.

Thanks.

Only 2 maneuvers allowed in a turn last time I checked. PG 213, in bold...

But I suppose you could do it twice per round...

Oh wait I see what you're saying... yeah so I guess it's doable. Do one as an action and the other two as maneuvers....

As you say, it would put undue strain on a character, so for that reason I would probably allow it. My players are allowed to yell themselves blue in the face if it means they can topple a few squads of stormtroopers with just their words.

Might we worth double checking the wording, but I would probably say that one can't choose to "not apply" Suprime to their Tirade and allow it to fall back to being an action again. So that'd max them out at 2 tirades/turn. That said, for 2 strain to perform, I don't think it'd break anything.

The text says that "[t]he character may voluntarily offer one strain to perform Scathing Tirade as a maneuver instead of an action", (AOR155). Doing it as a maneuver is voluntary, so you can do it three times in one round!

However, that's 4 strain you're suffering: 1 to do it as a maneuver, 2 to perform a second maneuver, and 1 more to use Scathing Tirade again. Blue in the face indeed, CaptainRaspberry!

Ah, thank you, I thought I might be miss-remembering. That's pretty awesome, but unless they have quite a coercion they could well cause more strain to themselves then to the enemy.

One of the more irksome parts of the FFG rpgs , was in WHFRP too i remember.

How exactly am i supposed to imagine that going down?

Ok , some bloke is yelling at stormtroopers , often while theyre fighting.

Unless they´re somehow supposed to listen to the guy, and he can somehow convince them to doubt what they´re doing,

why the hell would it bother them in the slightest?

I´d get if he were a Jedi , but i just dont really see a good way of narrating that...

And for those players that don't have a sword and a rubber chicken with a pulley in the middle:

"Defeat" is a broad concept, in this game.

In my particular anecdote, the Slicer had gotten the Politico comm access and she was broadcast right into their helmets. When they were defeated by taking only strain, I ruled that the whole situation had become sufficently annoying/confusing for the troopers that the squad leader ordered the them to go to radio silence (from the troopers' POV the comms were compromised from a narrative standpoint I ruled that calling for backup was not a sufficent defeat to represent what had occured... at least here) and fall back (I also ruled that they would eventually raise an alert in person, but much time was bought). As Stormtroopers are "faceless goons", one can easily imagine that those specific troopers were still out there as part of another encounter.

It can get worse than that, you can also reduce the coercion check with ranks of intimidating (not sure what AOR specs have that talent). So 2 ranks and you can have a simple coercion check where every success gives strain to your target that ignores soak and ranks in adversary , any advantage could be used to recover the strain or to cause strain to another target. Now imagine doing that three times a round with 3 yellow and 2 green dice.

It came up on the EotE forum before. It was also confirmed as intended as you need to throw a lot of xp at it and even then its a one trick pony idea, if does not affect anyone that cannot hear or more importantly understand you. So wont help against a Rancor.I suppose it isnt any worse than a jury rigged auto fire weapon.
