The posted plot summary isn't very good, no. But there's also no reason to believe it's particularly accurate, so... bad news/good news?

I think it looks fantastic. Definitely some better EU ideas preserved. Not sure about the weapon thing though. Darksaber was awful for a lot of reasons.

It will obviously begin with a lightsaber flying through space and Kylo Ren chasing it like a dog playing fetch.

If the plot that kicks everything off is the 30 year search for Vader's long lost Jedi saber, just shoot the script dead right now. It would shorten the war by 2 years and spare millions of lives.

Also, having the bad guy maybe being Han Solo's son, doesn't work if their is no backstory or build up. This is harkening back to Episode 3 when Anakin decides to go from Jedi to wholesale child murdering without the appropriate character development to back that kind of a shift up.

If the big bad guy is supposed to be Han Solo's son, then there needs to be more character revelation than Han meeting him and then supposedly being killed by him. what I read did not have enough of a lead up for the story to make that any kind of meaningful interaction. It would be like revealing Darth Vader as the big bad guy then revealing him as Luke's father in the same movie. You need the character development to engage the emotional reaction. If there is no build up, then the emotional reaction to the horrible becomes disconnected and loses value.

I hope that is not the whole plot of TFA...

In 30 years lots of things will happen that we don't see. I assume standalone films and/or novels will fill the gap. Solo's son going dark side is explored and justified fairly well in the EU. Doubt he has a daughter this time though.

Also I'm sure there are lots of scenes not included in this synopsis. We know flashbacks are happening in the movie.

I think it looks fantastic.

The bits I can trace to public information are all pretty good. The speculation the author is using to fill in the (very large) gaps isn't really working for me.

It was very meh to say the least. Queen Leia? Han Solo being murdered by his alleged son whom we have absolutely 0 backstory on? The Rebels building a superweapon to counter the Empire rebuilding a superweapon??

It looks like someone took the worst stories from the EU and smashed them together.

The only good thing I saw in that was the return of Admiral Ackbar.

EDIT: I would like to add, it might be slightly better if this was the end of a trilogy so we could actually know more about these people.

I also think killing Han off in the 1st movie is a bad idea.

Harrison Ford might have insisted on the timing. Didn't he want Solo to die in RotJ?

Has anyone read the EU books about Jacen going dark? They weren't amazingly well-written but there was some good stuff there.

One of my favorite EU series.

The thing is, there was a build-up for that and when he did turn, you could totally see that being in-character for him. What the movie script gives us is some random dude who *might* be a Solo kid who we have no back story on and is a sith.

Right, but they can add a bit of backstory to the movie.

If that really is the plot it's gonna be terrible.

You could, but it would be very rushed, kind of like the prequels with Anakin.

This needs some sort of prologue about what fractured the family, or else everyone will be lost.
