Just when you thought we had already seen the peak of Decimators.....
Raider Preview!
Why would anyone actually want to throw Palpie out the back of a Deci?!? He costs 8 pts! Moff JJ would almost always throw himself out before Palpie, unless it is in the end game, Palpie has already changed the die for the round, and you need to cancel two crits (Palpie & Moff JJ) just to survive for one more round/shot.
Very true. My point is in the Fluff it just doesn't make sense. The emperor would sense the move before moff could make it and stop him.
Okay, so that's your fluff complaint at this stage of the game's development.
Great upgrade card which should help make the shuttle a more popular support unit it was meant to be ![]()
The restrictions of "once per round" and "a [...] die" (singular) means that The Emperor is geared towards few-ship builds.
If you've got the crew slots to spare, it's probably well worth the insurance that a half or a third of your list doesn't get gimped/produces hits.
So, as pointed out by the list proposed in the article, he makes a good choice for, say, an Authothruster/Stealth Fel, who really doesn't want to lose his 4Agi.
On the other hand, it does woefully little for your TIE Swarm, which does not care about losing individual ships and probably already has rerolls for every ship via Howlrunner.
It seems clear enough to me that this card was designed with the intent to push squads away from swarming generics, which means its purpose is best fulfilled to buff the two-ship lists that the meta is already rife with.
I'm thrilled by the inclusion of one of my favorite characters. I'm not excited about his game effect.
What kind of swarm list supports a double crew 8 point upgrade away?! I don't see this as a push away from swarm any more than the other crew that swarm rarely if ever gets to play.
It can comfortably fit in a 6-ship Howlrunner swarm, and then not help very much.
Swarms don't see crew because Imperial crew notoriously do not help other Imperial ships, and it's hard to mix a large base in with a small base swarm.
But you might think otherwise-- seeing that the Emperor has no range or timing restrictions, you could see some variation of him being pretty helpful towards multiple ships in a round. However, this particular ability does not do that; it helps one ship. It forces you to make the decision of when he'll be most useful, which is what highly favors few ships rather than many.
Moreover, apart from putting him on the Raider because of the large number of crew slots there, I think it'll turn out that Epic play is not the format he likes most, either.
Helping the ship he's on, plus 1-2 more, tops, is where he's going to make his niche. And for good reason-- it's a good card, if you can handle the cost.
But where he's most useful is within lists that don't need the help to get to the top of the tournament scene; they're already there. He can make these lists more potent, so he's not going to change the meta much.
Which is not exciting, in my book.
So once per round? Is that like once per turn or phase or game (as in a round in a tournament)?
Some of the best design from FFG in this game to date. We get to run the Emperor in standard but not worry about him showing up in a phantom. He will change the entire "feel" of every match he is in without breaking the game balance. He forces both players to make interesting decisions.
Wonder if/when we will see double torp, cannon, missile, bomb upgrades? Have we seen the bottom left corners of all the wave 7 cards?
So once per round? Is that like once per turn or phase or game (as in a round in a tournament)?
A round consists of the following four Phases.
Planning phase
Activation phase
Combat phase
End phase
Once a round is finished you immediately start a new one.

Just when you thought we had already seen the peak of Decimators.....
...I dont follow.
It's not a stretch to look at the rule book and say "yup, what's printed here is accurate an absolute."
I agree that there will be an FAQ or whatever but right now, using the information we currently have, you can't Jerjerod the Emperor.
So quote the rule book.
Why would anyone actually want to throw Palpie out the back of a Deci?!?
Because it would be hilarious.
My point is in the Fluff it just doesn't make sense. The emperor would sense the move before moff could make it and stop him.
Yes, just like he sensed Vader's betrayal and had him killed before bringing Luke aboard Death Star II.
Vader might have had some practice hiding his true feelings from his Master.

Yes, just like he sensed Vader's betrayal and had him killed before bringing Luke aboard Death Star II.
The difference is, that vader was force sensitive and knows how to hide his emotions because of it. But moff has no abilities like that. Plus the emperor underestimated Luke, and figured he would just crush him. He didn't know he was trained by Yoda or that Luke could turn him.
"Your overconfidence is your weakness." "your faith in your moffs is yours."
I'm kind of surprised that a squad from an FFG preview article is something I'd consider flying.
That squad is stupid strong. You basically can't kill fel and jax is a pain.
The entire point of the omicron is to play keep away and lure your opponent.
You basically need to kill the omicron then deal with jax then try to kill fel. But at that point your facing fel with a weakened list.
Or do you go after fel and let jax screw you for a while?
So now we'll have Doomier Shuttles??

"Gloom" shuttles™.
I love it. Interceptor chasing a turret. Gets attacked. Autothrusters and Palpatine let you turn 2 blanks into evades.

I recall we also had an article with either Whisper or Echo where they were given a male pronoun. I wonder if this is a game FFG is playing with us to confuse us.

we've just never left it

We don't even know what race they are. It's entirely possible that both Echo and Whisper are humanoid aliens that possess dual sets of sex organs, thereby making it appropriate to use either male or female pronouns.

FFG and a guest writer called Echo male in articles, but in the FAQ, FFG called Echo female.
this is the first mention of Whisper's gender however.

Anything is possible when it comes to made up stuff, though the Empire was notoriously Xenophobic to non-humans...
though the Empire was notoriously Xenophobic to non-humans...
It was also notoriously sexist as well... The idea of female Tie pilot, even a lowly Tie Fighter was completely unheard of at one point in the EU.
That changed over time in the EU, where it became less xenophobic and less sexist. However how much of that will survive Eps 7 is hard to say

Brienne of Tarth is basically our new lord Vader, so I'm guessing not much ![]()
The Emperor is nuts. He doesn't appear to have any timing or range restrictions.
He is 8 points and takes up two crew slots

To add confusion, there is the way ships are implemented in this game, where the pilot and ship are inseparable.
Specifically, that it's common in English to refer to ships/fighters/vehicles/etc with a female pronoun. IE., "she's a fine ship".
So...that certainly doesn't help when trying to guess gender of a pilot by pronouns used.
