Raider Preview!

By Deltmi, in X-Wing

I am very and truly sorry that you have gone this far in your life unable to tell the difference between the numbers two and one. Forever more this will be called jfilmer's disease.

Other symptoms include the inability to distinguish pictures from textual colloquialisms.

I'm still waiting for any refutation of my argument as you've yourself conceded that Palpatine is crew, and that makes it pretty clear that Moff can get rid of him, directly from a FFG publication.

https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2014/8/11/ruthlessness-and-intimidation/

In here, they say "Moff Jerjerrod who can save the ship from suffering the most destructive critical hits. In fact, since Moff Jerjerrod can sacrifice other crew to save the ship from critical hits". We all agree that Palpatine is a crew, and here we have from FFG themselves that Moff J discards crew. Pretty clear cut.

And around we go. He's not a crew, he's two crew and the moff can't jet two crew to one crot.

The preview article literally says "Emperor Palpatine arrives to X-Wing as a crew upgrade in the Imperial Raider Expansion Pack."

Read the edit. He counts as two.

And I refuted your other point where I mentioned in "other symptoms" that you're confusing text for an icon.

I'll try this one more time. The number of crew slots used is irrelevant. Jerjerrod discards one crew upgrade card. Despite requiring two crew upgrade slots Palpatine is still a single card. Before you call my mathematical skill into question perhaps you could check your own?

And I refuted your other point where I mentioned in "other symptoms" that you're confusing text for an icon.

Here's the question, how does counting as even 10 crew stop him from being throw out? He counts as one other upgrade card of type <crew>, does he not? Moff discusses upgrade cards, not number of crew.

There is no suggestion that he 'counts as two' cards. He is a single card. There is no mechanism in the game where one card 'counts as' two.

It matters because page 19 says that cost and type are the same.

Because you can't simultaneously eject ten crew to his ability.

You eject no crew, you eject crew cards. Similarly if it was on torpedos you could eject an extra munitions because it's a torpedo upgrade card. He ejects 1 card per use, regardless of crew amount.

Ridiculousness of this 'debate' aside I am definitely going to use Jerjerrod to eject Palpatine in a game and it is going to make me laugh.

uhhh, idk this issue seems far simpler than everyone's making it out to be

moffy J says "discard this upgrade card or another (crew) upgrade card"

Palpy is a single upgrade card with the crew icon, the fact that he was two crew icons is irrelevant because moffy J doesn't specify the # of icons. Only the upgrade type is mentioned, and palpy qualifies.

now that that's resolved, you can go out and enjoy your horribly inefficient and silly combo :P

That's an inference you're making, reading the word "card" into jerjerod's ability. It's not present, only a single icon is.

It would fill me with no end of joy to have the single least efficient combination of upgrades in X-Wing named after me. Now if only I can work Saboteur in there somehow...

His use of one icon is, itself, the specification.

no it is not

he wants a card with the icon

he doesn't say jack diddly but a card with only the one icon

unless palpy's some super special secret upgrade that isn't actually a crew but instead some siamese hybrid of an upgrade slot (we'll call it the "V.I.P" slot), he's a crew card

Yes and you were ninja'd by an edit.

I was in fact ninja'd by inanity. I've tried to help you by bringing this to you in other angles, but it seems as hopeless as the "hound's tooth auxiliary arcs won't work like the firespray arcs" debate I had the other day. You have bested me, for I give up.

Stop reading the card the way you want and use the actual text printed!

Does the card say "with a crew icon"? Or does it say a "crew icon card"? If you go back to the rulebook, as I have pointed out many times now, it says that the type of upgrade is the icon printed there and what is printed there is two icons making it a different type of upgrade than your standard crew.

Stop reading the card the way you want and use the actual text printed!

The rules do not specify that such a thing as a "double crew" exists, so until you can quote a piece of relevant rules text, or post another image from the rule book that defines how multiple symbols work, you are patently, undoubtedly, one-hundred percent wrong.

And now that I've gotten that out of my system...

Why do you think that having multiple versions of the same icon make it a different type of card? In the preview it is clearly described as a crew upgrade card.

Because that's how the rules say to identify upgrade cards. By the icon. Since this is singular it doesn't allow for multiple icons and therefore we must treat the appearance of two icons as one new icon that looks like two icons.

Tell us PewPewPew, which of the Imperial ships can equip this mystifying new upgrade type?

Um. If this was intended to be a new kind of card why would they not just create a new icon? And if this is a new type of icon which of my ships can I equip it to?

why obviously the ones with the new upgrade s

we're going to need reprints on our shuttles and decis :(

maybe theyre trying to nerf cheri by only letting him take one crew and one crewcrew?
