Raider Preview!

By Deltmi, in X-Wing

Definitely need to build a list with 2 royal guard interceptors and a shuttle

So we know he is badass. Do we think he's worth 8 points in a 100 point game?

Edit: The fat turret haters are gonna hate hard on this one!

Not at 8 points they won't.

Taking two crew slots is more likely to limit his usage than costing 8 points will.

Vader and Palpatine together on a Decimator, because you want to reenact Vader tossing Palpatine down a hole.

I also love the two crew slot requirement. I mean, it makes sense. You need one for the emperor, and one for his chair.

I assumed the extra crew slot was for his retinue.

But his chair seems equally likely. :P

And we will all have to remember that your opponent rolls dice for Prox Mines, so I don't think he can help fix Prox Mine rolls.

Where does it say your opponent rolls the dice if your ship goes over a proximity mine?

Also, I think the rebel counterpart would probably be Obi-wan Kenobi (since yoda was just chilling on Dagobah during the galactic civil war).

What would Kenobi's ability be?

I think Jerjerrod (sp?) is more funny. He really had nothing to fear, he could have just ejected him. Screw your schedule! I need more men!

Palpatine and Moff J...

might want to try jammer shuttle with the big man. It's pricey for such a sloth, but the emperor is just " a friendly ship" and not "another friendly ship" so hey!

probably give luke's (pilot) ability to a friendly ship

"use the force, luke!"

he and lando never met, but they might become fast friends :P

Prox Mine rules say the owner of the ship rolls 3 attack dice and suffers damage.

That's not a Raider preview, it's the Emperor's preview.

An article for one card? Yup, a card worth a whole article by himself.

I like the design of double upgrade slots. I wonder if that will be used again in the future. It keeps him off fighters, thats for sure. And such a powerful ability. Should be interesting to see how this goes in the game.

Yep, very cool design indeed for that card, and priced accordingly in my opinion. We might see that double upgrade use again I think. Maybe a Rebel equivalent for a Yoda card? :-)

Yoda was never directly involved with the Galactic Civil War.

But it does set things up for Jabba on a Hound's Tooth.

If you want to put the Emperor on a Decimator and also take a couple of Interceptors, the best you can do is:

Patrol Leader+Emperor+Ysanne

2x(Saber Squadron + PtL)

You could lose Ysanne and make the Saber Squadrons into Royal Guard. (Which would be pretty thematic)

I'm kind of surprised that a squad from an FFG preview article is something I'd consider flying.

Yeah, they did a good job with that one, surprisingly.

Auto include though in Epic right? :)

What about Palpatine on the shuttle, and a Saboteur out on a cheap Phantom causing guaranteed crits?

Jendon + Emperor flying around the outskirts of the battle with Lt. Colzet will probably be a common sight in epic games.

Now I'm picturing the Emperor sitting in the turret manning an Anti-Pursuit Laser.

Can he effect debris rolls?

Yes

It's a preview of the Raider Expansion, of which the Emperor is a part.

Ha! 100% sabotage...

And - never fail on fixing a bad crit, or avoiding minor explosions...

OK, maybe (about Yoda)... I didn't realize it needed to be perfectly aligned like that. One could argue he still has an influence through the Force, but OK.

Jabba going along for a ride doesn't strike me as very thematic though. Sure, he can "motivate" his troops I guess, but actually fighting in space?!

Can I even eject the Emperor with Jerjerod?

Jerjerpd says he can eject crew upgrades, not double crew upgrades.

Also, I like an OMG pilot carrying the Emperor flanked by two sabers with outmaneuver, picking off guys why try to ping the emporer. Oh an lets add Howlrunnrr too. With predator, and you still get two points left.

The most obvious use I can think of is very similar to the VT-49 build in the article:

RAC + Predator + Palpatine

At range 1, that is really good odds for 2 crits + 2 hits even without any actions. Will have to do the math on that later.
