YT-2400 And Gray Squardon Rebel Control List

By DoABarrelRoll, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Greetings!

I've been looking at variations of Rebel control lists, and was interesting in getting some feedback for the following list:

Gray Squadron Pilot — Y-Wing 20
Ion Cannon Turret 5
R3-A2 2
BTL-A4 Y-Wing 0
Ship Total: 27

Eaden Vrill — YT-2400 32
Ion Cannon 3
Tactician 2
Ship Total: 37

Bandit Squadron Pilot — Z-95 Headhunter 12
Ship Total: 12

Bandit Squadron Pilot — Z-95 Headhunter 12
Ship Total: 12

Bandit Squadron Pilot — Z-95 Headhunter 12
Ship Total: 12

Theory:

The idea is for the Gray Squadron Y-Wing with Stressbot to double stress and perhaps ion its target. From there, Vrill has the flexibility to provide an additional Ion token with his cannon (should the target be a large ship) or use his 360 degree +1 primary perk on a stressed target. Including Tactician on Vrill allows for further flexibility in the pursuit of controlling the target.

For the last 36 points I have included 3 Bandits...I'm not necessarily wed to the idea of including them, but they do provide decent blockers, as well as more targets to choose from. The 30 HP this lists includes is also nothing to sniff at.

What do you all think?

also not sold on the bandits

I do think you'd be better off with an IA on Vrill. Tactician is nice and all, but you're working out of the arc and only stressing after his attack resolves. IA, meanwhile, takes advantage of the YT-2400s hilarious barrel roll while turning vrill into a better late game piece.

that'll also give 1 more point to the 36 point bandit clump, which is enough to replace two of them with a tactician B :)

My suggestion instead of the Bandits is 2 Prototype As. They block better and have more synergy with the YT2400.

I'd use the points saved to change the Grey to Dutch so you get a free TL for Vrill, and then maybe change the Tactician to IA as ficklegreendice suggests. You'd then have 4 points free for either an Engine Upgrade on Vrill or 2 sets of Autothrusters on the As.

Could you elaborate on the utility of Intelligence Agent coupled with the YT-2400s barrel roll ability? I've experimented with Expert Handing on a Firespray before so I have SOME concept of big-ship rolling, but im curious to hear your reasoning behind that suggestion.

The change from Z-95s to Proto-A's i also get....now to decide between a Tactician B or the Dutch route.

i don't like dutch with r3-a2. double stressing a Y works, but dutch needs his actions to keep up the TL shenanigans.

oh it's simple

large base + rng 1-2 gives you massive coverage, and then large base + side template lets you flop your flapjack either out of arc of right in front of something important (Soontir)

IA also lets your B-wing barrel-roll into optimal position and it's absolutely hilarious for any boosting A-wings for blocking purposes

simply knowing where the enemy will end up takes away most of the strain of being low PS and it could be highly advantageous for applying arc-dependent control effects

I was trying to come up with a rebel control list this morning as well and came up with this:

100 points Pilots ------

Blue Squadron Pilot (30)

B-Wing (22), Fire-Control System (2), Ion Cannon (3), B-Wing/E2 (1), Tactician (2)

Biggs Darklighter (30)

X-Wing (25), R3-A2 (2), Stealth Device (3)

Eaden Vrill (40)

YT-2400 Freighter (32), Flechette Cannon (2), Gunner (5), Tactical Jammer (1)

I am relatively new to the game but I look forward to trying this out. Any thoughts/suggestions?

Guessing OP saw me post this list elsewhere or saw me flying it on Vassal this week...

Obviously, having run it, I can testify that this is a solid list with competitive potential if flown right. Just, you know, give me a little credit for coming up with it :P

Sorry bud. Was completely unaware of your independent invention. 1000000 space bucks for you.

Been running something similar

Vrill

Ion cannon

Gunner

Ps4 y wing

Ion turret

R3-a2

Btal title

Ps4 b wing

Ion

Fcs

Tactician

Does quite well.

2 tanky ships that can hand out stress and do some damage or ion.

Vrill to follow up with ion or 3 reds. Barrel roll for blocking or ensuring r1 shots for 4 dice.

Give it a spin.

I thought of something to try with this. I figured a mini panic attack with Eaden would be good.

Grey squadron: 27pts

BTL/A-4

Ion cannon turret

R3-A2

Dagger squadron: 33pts

flechette cannon

B-Wing/E-2

Tactician

sensor jammer

Eaden Vrill: 40pts

Luke Skywalker

tactical jammer

main idea is that the support ships stress the heck out of something and eaden blasts it for a few turns
