Saturday I had my second Tournament at Flagship Comics and Games in Southington CT. I took Imperials.
Here is my List:
Glad2, Engine Techs, Wulfy, Assault Concussion Missels, Demolisher
Vic2, Screed, Expanded Hangar Bays, Flight Controllers
3x TIE Fighters
2x TIE Interceptors
Darth Vader
Howlrunner
Advanced Gunnery, Contested Outpost, Minefield.
Round 1 - Kenny
I play against a double Vic Motti build. He had the Imperial aces with some chaff, but only 6 or so figher stands. He upgrades for Assault Concussion Missles on the Vic1, Point Blank Defense on both ships, Intel officers on both ships, and XX-9s on both ships. Turns out having multiple crit effect options on a whim is actually really good. Motti forced another round of shooting into his ships. My fighters are able to destroy his fighters. I trade the Glad for a Vic and slowly get the other Vic dead. Its a super close game and the longest of the round. He had opening Salvo as a mission so we played that. I won 6-4
Round 2 - Patrick
After finding out everyone else who won did so with 8-2 margins I was sort of in a "meh whatever" mood as I thought the 6-4 would cost me. Patrick was playing a similar build to mine except he had a Glad1. He had Rhymer with 2x Bombers, Mauler Mithel, 2x TIE Ints and an Advanced. We played Hyperspace assault as I did not want to give him Advanced Gunnery. I presented my Vic front and center and gladiator off the side opposed his gladiator. I deploy fighters from my Vic and we start. We move up our glads. He squadrons to engage my fighters. I squadron to clear out vader, he flys off to deal with rhymer. I grind out the fighters and we start trading blows. This is where things go south. My Glad side broadsides his glad and then moves over an asteroid to deliver his front firing solution into the side of the Vic with no shields left. He would redirect to the back (all my fighters) or the front (my Vic). I take my crit and its Coolant Discharge. I can not shoot ships more than once. A slight set back but ok. My vic moves, ends on an asteroid, both intentionally. the cirt effect reduces my speed by 1 or lets my opponent change my top dial. I get reduced to 0 speed on an asteroid, where I sit and move speed 0 and continue to take crits till I become wreckage. His 2 ships mop up my glad and its a 1-9 defeat. This was a tough loss.
Round 3 - Riker
I played against Riker and he rebels. He had 5 or so X-wings and a Y-wing. With Gallant Haven Assault Frigate and 2 Nebulas. At this point I am looking to play something new. I am going first so I pick precision strikes. My squadron load out takes out his fighters after he hits my glad for 5 damage with 2 x-wings and a y-wing (ouch). My glad speeds past his Assault frigate and flanks the nebulas, while my Vic hits them head on. I clear all the squadrons, blow up the nebs and slowly grind the assault frigate, but do not kill it (i think). I scored 5 objective markers via crits and wound up winning 9-1 just missing the 10-0 victory.
Turns out their was a 3-way Tie for 2nd at 16 tournament points. After tie breakers I wind up in third place. Realizing too late that I should not let a 6-4 win bother me and to play the scenario more. that 10-0 would have netted me second place and my second Vic card.
I had a blast. 8 people came out to support the event. I learned a lot and made some mistakes that cost me either games or placing. I still had a blast and I know its a good game when you can go out to dinner with everyone and we discuss our plans for the next event.
List changes: Glad2 to Glad1. Vader comes out, replace with Rhymer. Add a TIE Interceptor. Next event is 5/30 at Gamers Gambit in Danbury so their should be another one of these next Monday.
Thanks for reading.
