I always salivate at the excel full spoiler when it sometimes comes out before the cards. But reviewing is always harder. We've also know a bit from the grander previews of the release of a new cycle. This being Dreamlands, those amps were turned up to eleven. Unlike the other five AP that provide the three spoiled cards and the announcement, we got Gug Chieftan a loong time ago and knowledge of zoogs and other now-redundant specifics. So the review of this pack in hand can break down to two elements - the illustration and the composition. Which I don't feel like doing really. The excel being out for a month, this will be the second wave of mechanic / attribute / tactics discussion. A card's value has already been discussed.
So, I'd have to focus on the big step, the many additions apparent. Happens all the time, from UT icon boosters to FR Artifacts to Polar Events, Research, and Faculty (and he "C" word). But here we have a selection that may grow into a nice group of mechanics for a cohesive AP cycle. I wondered, a post ago, if it would be too inclusive and wonky. Right now, we don't yet know, which is a nice place to be after the first Dreamlands AP. We can worry that the slower LCG pace, with less (no) combos, will clunk along. We can wonder if the energy to play the new Dreamlands tricks may be weak and not competetive versus eight sledge dogs and the standard of the new gencon 2009 decks. Indeed the Dream Diary looks like a waste...unless the Dreamer subtype grows into something well constructed. We shall see. So, twilight horror is a nice first step, I'm saying. Lots new to ponder. Besides that sense, which is what I am going on for a positive review, I'm not especially excited at first look at this AP. Day, Night, Floodlights, and Night-shift Security, look very nice. The Beings of Ib is frustrating, because it's the coolest looking, my favorite in the pack, but the LCG CT ancient ones don't seem worth playing (yog and shub maybe). The Zoog image is too silly - but the new resource symbol is intriguing. Twila and Gegory, well I'll hide behind the theme of my review - we'll see. This could be like Julia, who had her great, passable and not-so moments.
