The Seven Cloisters of the Ordo Malleus

By Decessor, in Rogue Trader Gamemasters

Has anyone here used any of the seven cloisters from Dark Heresy: Daemon Hunters in a rogue trader campaign? p12-13 in that book if you're curious.

The cloisters are heavily secured and secret installations of the Ordo Malleus in and around the Calixis sector. One (the forbidden cloister) orbits a dead world in the maw and has earned that area a dread reputation (unauthorised visitors are shot on sight).

I have thought of using them in my rogue trader campaign, long story short: A player has been infected by by a halo device and they need to find Inquisitor Whitlock to help them. Whiltlock will lead them to one of the cloisters to find something to help them, cue Yu'vath nastyness and exorcism of halo device.

You know, this sounds like why they instituted a policy of shooting down anyone who comes near them.

And that policy sounds exactly why Rogue Traders would be highly interested in just what is inside those things.

The circle of life...

Well back on topic, i have also found the screaming cloister to be very interesting for a faith centered group. A group with ties to either the inquisition or the ecclesiarchy could be recruited to help reclaim it, perhaps even pulling in some space marines in grey armor who refuse to disclose from what chapter they hail. If one were to use the Pheronites the cloisters are a goldmine as well, with the lost cloister, or if the pharonites desired to use the screaming cloister for something. Loads of oppotunities in those things (and loot lets not forget loot).

There could be almost anything secreted away in the cloisters. These are the largest Calixian bases of the Ordo Malleus and they won't be caught short of supplies. If the lost cloister actually exists, perhaps a rogue trader dynasty might be the ones to rediscover it.

They might as well have called them Macguffin storage facilities, and are you sure that its Ordo Malleus only, and not just inquisition in general bases?

And as to the lost cloister, i see it now, a grand endeavor: Find the lost cloister, involving the most dangerous creatures the expanse has to offer, a battle of wits with the servants of Karrad Vahl, an all out assault on a Pharonite base and thats just to find the thrice damned thing. Then there is reaching the Cloister, they realize that the Cloister has been dragged into the depths of the Processional of the Damned and is now in orbit around the planet closest to that damned star. After a long and hazardous trip they reach and breach the Cloister, only to find it overrun with Yu'Vath creations. After a grueling battle against the worst Yu'Vath creations ever they reach the vaults, and amongst the treasures they find a stasis capsule containing a single young man. When they inevitably empty the vaults the stasis capsule breaks and the young man is freed, he thanks the explorers and introduces himself with the following: "To explain exactly who i am would be exceedingly difficult and time consuming and it sounds like this station is structurally compromised so for the purposes of our flight from here you may call me Revelation." He disappears once he is aboard the explorers vessel never to be seen again.

And as for the reward a Commit Heresy once for free card.

Definately Ordo Malleus only. That is made very clear. Not even the masters of that organisation in Calixis know where all of the cloisters are. And agreed about macguffin storage. ;)
