A-Wing and B-Wing, Friends Forever

By Beatty, in Star Wars: Armada

So I ran a fun list today that was Squadron heavy with Tycho, 3 A-Wings and 3 B-Wings. The result was a very fun Squadron engagement.

The A-Wings did their jobs mostly well and kept most of the enemy ships off my bombers but when they did slip through the A-Wings the B-Wings more than handled their own.

Now I want to run a Space Whale with a Nebulon-B geared up for the heavy squadron list. Now I have some great ideas lined up but there are a couple of things I am on the fence about.

Should I run Tycho with 3 A's and 3 B's or 2 A's and 4 B's? Should I go with Salvation or Yarvis? I have a great idea for upgrades (pretty set for tomorrow but still curious.) but if this was your list what would you do?

I might remember this list. . .

4 A-wings + 4 B-wings = 100 pts. Just saying.

From Pikciwok's carrier thread in the fleet building forum, there is also the option of Keyan, two B-wings and four X-wings for 100 points. It looks deadly on paper and I have it in my own personal queue to get on a table.

(Trying out new stuff and play testing it. I will let Pikciwok play test his own list.)

It is 100 points but Tycho is a serious Beast. He is everywhere you need him.

I have to agree with you here because if you dont tie up all the squadrons you need to Tyco is so dynamic he can be anywhere you need him to.

xwings don't have counter, a wings do. also, awings are much faster. If you need to protect your bombers, (whatever they are) then my choice would be the A-wings. Xwings are nice if they get to shoot first, but with couter, an Awing can shoot, then shoot again when attacked.

i'm really liking tie interceptors for the same reason (who am i kidding? I have always love the interceptor, and the bomber)

That's 148 points.

EDIT: I thought I was on the X-Wing forum.

O.O

4 A-wings = 44 pts (4x 11pts)

4 B-wings = 56 pts (4x 14pts)

That's 148 points.

How did you even come close to 148?

My bad, I thought I was on the X-Wing forum >_<

I have a post in fleet builds where I playtested something very similar to this. Pictures, strategies, etc. Used Haven and Yavaris. Had 2 awings, 2 xwings, 2 bwings. Worked very well.

Funny enough, that might be a really good 150 point list for x-wing. :)

Oops, phone decide to place message in the quotes...

The only problem I can see is that if the ties ignore shooting the A-wings, the B's can get eaten up. Tycho is awesome, but perhaps supplement with X-Wings instead for the escort ability.

Edit: The A-Wings fly forward to tie up the Ties (:P) while the B-Wings fly escort with the Space Whale.

Can't really ignore the A's at all. Trust me. And the few Ties that do make it through realize that a three blue dice bomber is still good against Ties. (I don't remember losing one B-Wing yet.)

for squadrons, it seems the biggest consideration is "can I beat at least four interceptors with flight controllers and possibly howlrunner." You can with 6 x-wings and haven, and B-wings are kinda X-wings with flight controller.

Salvation would probably be more balanced (toss adar, replace Yavaris, slap on x17s) but Yavaris is just funny. If you feel confident against fighters, you can even go for Salvation, drop it down to a support refit, and swap an A-wing for a B-wing.

Haven and Yavaris along with 4 A-wings and 4 B-wings just killed 2 GSD IIs a VSD I and 4 interceptors in hyperspace assault. My opponent probably waited too long to jump in the second GSD but either way the B-wings just shredded both of them. I was first player and noticed that Glads really suffer when they don't have initiative. Especially if you keep your speed at 2 or above.
