Electric Boogaloo, x7 Z-95 Feedback Array

By Teh HOBO, in X-Wing Battle Reports

So this list doesn't seem to be too popular, probably because it requires you to buy 4 IG-2000s and 3 Most Wanted packs. I like epic play so I did get 4 IG-2000s and finally broke down and got the third most wanted(sold the rest) so I could run this list that I'm sure everyone has pondered at least once.

My list x5 Binayre Pirates 2x Black Sun Soldiers all with Feedback Array.

Casual, 9 man(one guy left after two rounds on account of his back), spring kit.

Round 1

3x B-wings with E2/Tactician, 1 Y-wing with BTL-A4/Ion turret/R3-A2

Panic attack, the reason I built this list is because of panic attack and B-Wings in general, so this was a good test. I set up in one corner and my opponent set up in the opposite corner, a common theme, not one of my opponents set up for a straight joust(I wonder why? :)). First couple of turns, no shots, the B-wings cruise through the asteroids and I turn in for the joust. Being able to stress my ships didn't really help him as I set up a parking lot turn 4 and at range one the Z-95s shined. Having two ships able to shoot before the Blues helped a lot and they got the most hate. Action-less, the 4 red dice were not as scary and, ironically, his heaviest hitter was the Y-wing double-tapping. Took the 3 B-Wings down in a couple turns leaving 4 Z-95s against a single, double stressed, Y-wing. Not a good match up.

Round 2

Chiraneau with Predator/Rebel Captive/Mara Jade/Gunner/Seismic Charge/Engine Upgrade

Soontir with Push the Limit/Royal Guard/Autothrusters/Targeting Computer

A more offensive Sontir and Mara Jade and Seismic instead of Isard. Ben's a good player and he plays Soontir all the time. The lack of stealth device meant I could be a bit more aggressive in going after him, that is if he let me ever shoot at Soontir though...

Set up was the same as every other round, opposite corners of the map. He sent Chippy straight down the middle, diagonally, and danced Soontir behind him to entice me to split my swarm. I took the bait(I probably shouldn't have) sent 4 Z's to harass Soontir and K-turned the rest to make a run on Chip. Soontir ran and Chip and the Z's traded a couple shots. Next couple of turns I swarmed the Decimator but good boosting meant he got range 3 and he rolled 7(!) straight evades to keep Chippy laughing. I do manage to trap him down at my side of the board eventually though and set up the parking lot. MY dice suck though and I only half his health. His Soontir however gets too close(Interceptors gotta go fast and I've got 7 ships to avoid) and he takes two auto damage from feedback arrays and I kill him next turn by throwing red dice at him until his greens fail. Chip falls soon after.

Soontir spent most of the game running away and only shot once. Auto damage is scary to an interceptor. The charge caught 3 of my Z's though and for two points worked well in his other matches.

Round 3

Chiraneau with Predator/Isard/Gunner/Vader/Engine

Soontir with Push the Limit/Royal Guard/Autothrusters/Targeting Computer

I was feeling pretty good about this one after my last round, pride does come before a fall.

Same setup, same opening, except this time he just clips the debris with Soontir, crits into 2 damage and I have a choice to make. Do I split off a force to try an kill a now crippled Soontir or do I focus down the Decimator? I split and Soontir's dice fail after two rounds of shooting, however Chiraneau has now, with boosting isolated and killed two Z's and my Z's are spread out and can't re-form into a block easily. So his Chiraneau just boosts around the board isolating and killing 3 more Z's, with one Vader Direct hit crit and another Chiraneau Direct Hit crit, while I am only able to bring hm down to 3 hull before time is called.

If I had one more turn or if I rolled maybe even a single crit or I pull not two direct hits and get to shoot back with those Z's, or I focus down Chip early, (or, or, or, or) I take this game. But considering my opponent's horrible luck clipping the debris I guess I can't be too upset.

Round 4

x4 Blue Squadron B-Wings with Accuracy Correctors

After that loss, I knew I couldn't win the tourney. Either you win all your games with a swarm in a pure swiss tourney or you don't win at all. MOV really screws over swarms in swiss.

Same setup, same opening. He tries to pull me into the asteroids/debris as, with corrector, he doesn't care about actions. I don't take the bait and he swings out of the asteroids. Once again my dice suck in the opening exchange and I'm down 2 z's in exchange for only 5 shields off one B-Wing. I set up the parking lot but accuracy correctors don't care so I lose 1 more but my dice finally improve slightly and in combination with a few timely feedbacks I manage to kill 1 then one more B and clean up with 4 Z's a couple turns later.

W 100-52?

I ended up taking second. All in all I like the list, got a lot of good match ups, against the always popular Blue B's especially and I think Chiraneau/dodger is absolutely winnable. They may have had some bad luck with their Soontirs but, I didn't get a single crit on either of the Chiraneaus I faced and 7 straight evades was crazy, so it definitely evened out.

Z swarms are underated. I have had much luck with the Escadrille de Merde'. Not many thrills to fly compared to an intercepter, but the have a touch more staying power than a tie.

I used a mini swarm with FBA it did very well against aggressors.

I've been playing around with a 5x Scum Z swarm and having a lot of fun. Trying to find the best wingman for the list.

Cracken for the Rebels. Scum don't seem to have an odvious choice.

Gonna run a super Pablo with 5 Binarye escort(x3 Arrays) tomorrow. Palob's got the same wingman problem.

Drop Recon Specialist and Opportunist down to Predator so you can get all five arrays

Electric Boogaloo 2: The Sequel.

14 man, casual, summer kit.

1st round: 4x B-wings with tactician.

This was a good list to bring to this tourney as almost no one plays true swarms, unfortunately, this is a rough matchup for the B-wings. My Z's don't really care about stress and they need to kill at least 2 Z's per turn in the first couple of rounds of shooting as the swarm will knock off at least 3/4 of a B-wing a round in the joust(which will last at least 2 rounds) and each B-wing lost is a huge dip in firepower. So I suppose the winning(?) play is not to joust with a ship that wants to joust with every fiber of its being. Z's may not have a 5 straight but they're fast enough to catch B-wings.

This one was over fairly quickly as he realized the horrible matchup and moved in for the joust through the debris(no one but my last opponent had asteroids) hoping to kill enough to boost his MOV as high as possible, tricksy green dice let him get 4 of me Z's and I get the win.

Round 2 Chiraneau w/Gunner, Captive, Isard, Engine. Fel w/PTL, title, Autothrusters, Stealth Device

The list(with Vader swapped for Isard) that beat me last time. I was determined not to break and chase Fel this time as, even though I killed him, chasing Fel broke my formation too much and Chip was able to circle the board and isolate my scattered Z's for the win. Funny how things go though.

He sets up Chiraneauon the opposite corner to my block and sets up Fel in front of my swarm as obvious bait, I 4 straight, then 1 straight, then 1 bank to set up a turn through the debris and move on his fast approaching Decimator as he spins Fel in place when a range 3 potshot at Fel punches through those tricksy 5 green dice to slap a direct hit on him and kill his stealth device with Fel pointed in the wrong direction, facing the corner. Almost a mirror of our last matchup. Smelling blood I send the whole block at Fel and though Fel can dance out of all seven arcs he can't dodge Feedback Array and he goes down.

Not having split my squad I can now turn and face Chiraneau with my whole squad. I split a single Z off the main group to head wide and set up a block as he turns Chiraneau away from my squad and tries to limit the number of Z's firing at him(otherwise know as running away). Chiraneau doesn't last long a double crit shot double stresses him so he can't use Isard and the swarm collapses on Chip and ruins his day. He ends up killing only 3 fighters and I start feeling good about my chances.

Round 3: Corran w/Push, FCS, R2 D2, Dagger Squad W/FCS and two Talas.

An interesting list, the Talas and the Dagger shoot before any "meta" generics and so can kill filler ships rather effectively and Super Corran can solo most fat turrets and can hang with arc dodgers enough to pull out the win. It's more effective than it looks at first glance and everyone underestimates Z-95s.

This one was over fairly quickly as pulling a feedback swarm into debris(or asteroids) doesn't hurt them that bad. Corran and the B went down fast, being able to guarantee a hit makes finishing off damaged ships much less stressful. This player was somewhat newer to the competitive scene and had never faced a swarm before and a valuable lesson in not jousting with a swarm was learned. The Talas ended taking out three of my Z's though and hung around for four more rounds before I could corral them. Tough little bastards.

Round 4: Kavil w/Blaster Turret, R4 Agro, 2x Binayre, Kath Scarlet w/ expert handling, Engine Upgrade, Seismic Charge

I had actually ran a demo for him at Comic Con a couple months ago and now, at his first tournament, he's at the top table with a chance to win. I love the list. Prototypical Scum, a bunch of independent pieces all with different ways to beat you. This list wants you to chase for those 4 dice kill shots.

Kath tried to slip behind the block but couldn't quite make it and went down fast and once again the little Z-95s wouldn't go down with one surviving three(!) range one shots unscathed as I decided to forgo the auto kill(only 3 hits left on it) with my arrays as Kavil was still coming around and I didn't want to damage my Z's as that would make it far easier for Kavil to one shot them. So much for that plan. In the end shot Kavil a few times an then just zapped everything I could, I wasn't going to take any chances. After the game he said he was looking forward to saying "Now I am the master", almost made me want to lose as that was a great line, almost.

Not much else to say. The little bug zappers got me my first (casual) tournament win before the raider and wave 7 blow the meta up. A fun, but tiring list to play, I think with all the new bombs and missiles flying around this list might not do as well in the new meta and accuracy corrector Advanceds is a bad match up I don't think I can zap them quick enough(shooting through an evade+3 green with 2 reds won't work well at all) before they kill enough that I don't have the hits left to zap without killing myself.

Excellent, short-and-sweet write-ups! You're right, I have been very interested in this list but have been afraid to pull the trigger on all the ships without knowing how good it was. I was able to score 4x Feedback Array as singles on eBay for a reasonable price, so at least I won't have to buy all the IGs. Do need two more Most Wanted sets but I've been looking for another reason to justify having all four Y-Wings in the cool Scum paint job for my Warthogs list.
