Stormtrooper game ideas

New imperial equipment: Giant Afro pick

This seems extremely … racist … to me.

Are we really going to go there?

It wasn't a new creation by the poster above. It's from Space Balls , a Star Wars parody, that, yes, was full of very offensive remarks. But, most (?) didn't take them seriously, thought they were funny, and the offensive remarks weren't limited to just one group. Example: Jewish jokes ("Druish Princess") while the movie was written and directed by a Jew (Mel Brooks).

So.. I take it you have never seen the movie Spaceballs.

I assure my referencing the movie was with no racist intent, merely referencing a humourous movie. If you watch any of Mel Brooks' movies you Will see some controversial humour, but it is with intent of taking the piss out of things.

No, I have seen Spaceballs, and I’m a pretty big fan of Mel Brooks.

However, this particular reference escaped me.

Sorry for the confusion!

I wasn't going to touch that until I knew what was going on. I remember that joke now. Kinda lackluster compared to "Spaceballs the flamethrower!"

The depiction of stormtroopers in the movies was always a failing in the same way adversary soldiers are in a lot of adventure movies. Just a crowd of guys in uniforms running with guns, shooting from the hip, not moving in any organized way. Still, the fiction characterizes Stormtroopers as basically being marines, so I always write them as being skilled professional soldiers, and I assume that they are, in fact, organized the way you would expect soldiers or marines are. Squad and fireteam members should have roles to play, even among stormtroopers. Marksmen, support gunners, medics, etc.

I think it could be really interesting to takes some cues from Black Hawk Down, in scenarios and in characterization. Your team, since you say they're not the elite team of super-badass commandos, could be deployed as a element in a much larger operation. Maybe something in the operation goes wrong and the team's mission of securing the perimeter becomes some thing else, like chasing down an escaping target or rescuing the crew of a downed transport.

Also, your team of tough professional soldiers could interact with, or at least see in action, a group of near-superhuman elite commandos. Say, your team is taking on some kind of armored vehicle. It's tough but they manage to bring it down with a little luck and a lot of firepower. Suddenly, a second one shows up. It looks bad, but one of the elite guys jumps in, plants a charge on the the enemy tank and boom. Just another day for one of those guys.

I guess the other thing to think about in an Imperial military setting, is taking advantage of the overwhelming fire support offered by the Imperial Navy. Test communication skills or cool by accurately calling in fire missions or air strikes, or use beacons or target designators.

That's a good idea. I was experimenting with adding a targeting action. Basically, they take a move to preform a spot check against an enemy, and every trooper who can see it gets a blue to their pool to shoot said enemy. And they can track them around corners and such.
Mostly because I wanted to rebels to later drop EMP and knock out all the armors systems, robbing them of this ability at a criticalmoment. Muwahahahaha.

I thought the book Allegiance was decent and would provide some ideas to get you started.

If we draw from Spaceballs then there really needs to be a "They Shot My Hair" talent.

"They Shot My Hair"

Once per session, if the Character's hair is damaged by a ranged weapon, then the Difficulty of Ranged Checks are reduced to Easy. Character also gains 2 Boost. This effect lasts for three rounds.

Also, stats for the items i used that are not described.

Body Glove:

Defense: 0 Encumbrance: 2

Soak: 0 (1 Vs Energy) Hard Points: 1

Special: Reduce encumbrance of worn armor by 1.

Repulsor Mines:

Damage: 10 Strain

Encumbrance: 1

Crit: 3

Special: Breach 1

Against Silhouette 1 or less, anything triggering the mine is launched in the direction it's facing, and a general direction at the placers discretion, up to 2 range bands. It must be at least one range band up.

Anything of Silhouette 2 must make a 3 purple resilience check. Failure means the subject is launched the full distance. Otherwise the subject is launched only partway, or not at all.

Repulsor mines cannot affect silhouette 3 or higher.

Looks interesting. Are you going to add some NPCs as a rival team/backup?

There is another team of PCs (Fire Team Impala), but otherwise it's what the players can scrounge for help.

You're going to need to explain this on to me, as at least for a stormtrooper campaign, it seems like it might be smoother to just increase the armors soak and add a HP....

It also reduces encumbrance, and I'm going to be making more types of armor, with varying encumbrances, soak values, ect. For instance, Scout Trooper Armor will be lighter, but provide defense in the right circumstances. Plus I wanted something they could wear under a dress uniform. Cause that's going to be a thing.

Right, but since worn armor gets its enc reduced (usually to 0) this seems...weird, especially the HP...

Fair enough.

Hi comic collector. Im very keen getting the rpg and running an empire based game but isnt the game based around rebels only? Any tips on running stormtroopers would be very welcome.

Thanks.
