New critical table: Corrosion

By Tetragon Tanebrae, in Dark Heresy

In an encounter my players had with a Slaught infiltrator I was a little enoyed that its close combat attacks dealt rending damage as I did not feel that the corrosive acids of a slaught works the same way as a blade, so after some days of feeling irritated I decided that I might as well do something about it and began to design a critical table for weapons that dealt corrosive damage (shorted to C).

In the sense of gameplay this could be used when a xenos spit acid or had its close combat weapons coated in it (like the Slaught) or when a a flamer-like weapon fired acid instead of flame (like the Dark Eldar Destructor) or simply with any Xeno weapon whose effect is to consume (like Tyranid weapons if anyone use them). alternatively people could say that every weapon that deals toxic damage (having the Toxic special quality) have the Corrosive damage type, or people could just not use it if they don't like it.

I have cross refered it to the other tables to make it as balanced as possible, the end result is more deadly than Engergy and Impact weapons but less so than Rending Explosive in terms of how fast you die and how much fatigue/stunning/characteristic damage it gives.

The layout was better on my computer but it was a little difficult to get into the post, hopes it isn't to irritating to read.

Corrosive Damage Tables :
At some points the damage tables mention that the target suffers Corrosion; This represent that unless treated the corrosives will continue to devour important tissue, it works like blood loss but can only be treated with a successful hard (-20) Madicae test.

Head
1 A stinging pain fills the targets face, imposing a -10 to all test (except toughness) for 1 round
2 The corrosives gets in the targets eyes, he is blinded for 1d5 rounds and takes 1 level of fatigue
3 Horrific scars are burned in the targets face, dealing 2 levels of fatigue
4 Most of the targets skin is corroded away, leaving him clutching his face in agony, he is stunned for 1 round and takes 2 levels of fatigue as well as -2d10 to his fellowship in a week minus his TB in days
5 The targets face is permanently scarred by the corrosives, his Fellowship permanently drops by 2d10 and he takes 1d10 levels of fatigue
6 The corrosives eats through the targets eyes, permanently blinding him and dealing 3 levels of fatigue
7 The corrosives melts and burn through skin, muscle and damaging sensitive brain tissue, his Fellowship permanently drops by 1d10 and his Intelligence by 2d10 and gains 1d10 levels of fatigue. In addition the target suffers corrosion.
8 The corrosives eat through the targets head and brain. He dies a slow agonizing death.
9 The targets head is completely consumed by the corrosives; there is nothing left save the remains of a hideously corroded skull. He is quite dead
10+ As above, except the corrosives spray out on all those nearby dealing 1d10 C damage

Arms
1 Pain stings the targets arm, he must pass a Toughness test or drop what was held in that hand
2 The attack burns the target’s arm coursing 1 level of fatigue
3 The intense pain of the corrosion of his skin sends the target screaming in pain. He is stunned for 1d5 rounds, takes 2 levels of fatigue and drops whatever was held in that hand.
4 The limp becomes paralyzed as the corrosives overload the nerves. The target takes 1d5 levels of fatigue and the arm is useless until receiving medical attention.
5 The arm is horrifically burnt by the corrosives. The arm is useless for in 2d10 rounds. He takes 3 levels of fatigue and is stunned in 2 rounds.
6 The corrosives eat through both the skin and tissue of the hand. The target must pass a Toughness test or looses the permanent use of a finger for each decree of failure (just failed only renders the hand useless until medical attention is received) a failure by 5 or more decrees means the entire hands is lost, in addition until amputated the target suffers from corrosion, he take 1d5 levels of fatigue.
7 The limp is rendered utterly useless as the corrosives devour all the way into the tissues and nerves, the target takes 3 levels of fatigue and until repaired counts as having only one arm
8 The powerful corrosives eat right through the arm at the shoulder causing the limp to be severed from the body. The target is stunned for 1 round and takes 1d10 levels of fatigue. The target now only has one arm.
9 The arm is consumed, eaten to and through the bone. The target must immediately make a Toughness Test or die from shock. If he survives he is stunned for 1 round and takes 1d10 levels of fatigue. The target now only has one arm.
10+ The attack reduces the arm to a molten oozy mass and sends the target crumpling to the ground where they immediately die from shock, clutching their smoking stump.

Body
1 The attack to the target’s body hurt considerably, he is stunned for 1 round
2 The attack damages the targets armour, the AP is reduced by 1, and he takes 1 level of fatigue. If he is not wearing armour he is stunned for 1 round.
3 The attack eats through the flesh on the chest and abdomen inflicting 2 levels of fatigue and leaving the target stunned for 1 round.
4 The corrosives burns deep into the body leaving raw red muscle exposed. The target takes 1d10 levels of fatigue and reduces his Toughness by 1d10.
5 The attack scores deep wounds and leave the corrosives to wreak havoc with the body’s tissue. The target takes 2 levels of fatigue and now suffers Corrosion.
6 The attack sends the target to the ground while it burns through his armour and exterior. The target is prone, stunned for 1d10 rounds and takes 1d5 levels of fatigue. In addition if he is wearing armour on this location it is now destroyed.
7 The ferocious corrosives eat into the targets organs and scramble his nervous system. He is stunned for 1d10 rounds and halves his Toughness and Agility.
8 The attack turns the targets innards into ruin. He must make a toughness test or die. If he survives he halves his Toughness, takes 1d10 levels of fatigue and suffers corrosion.
9 The corrosives hungrily devour the vital organs of the target. He falls to the ground dead.
10+ The target is consumed from the inside out turning him into little more than a fleshy skeleton, he does not survive. Anyone seeing this horrific display must test Willpower or be stunned for 1 round.

Legs
1 A light blow to the leg leaves the target gasping for air. The target takes 1 level of fatigue.
2 A gazing strike against the leg slows the target. The target halves all movement for 1 round.
3 A nasty hit to the leg leaves the target with deep burns. The target halves all movement for 1d5 rounds, is stunned for 1 round and takes 1 level of fatigue.
4 A solid blow to the leg sends electrical currents of agony coursing through the target. The target takes 1d5 levels of fatigue and halves all movement for 1d5 rounds.
5 The targets leg endures horrific corrosion to the leg. The target takes 2 levels of fatigue, is stunned for 1 round and now suffers Corrosion.
6 The attack makes the flesh of the foot boil and burn with a distinctive hissing noise. The target must test Toughness or permanently lose the use of his foot. On a success halve all movement until medical attention is received. The target takes 2 levels of fatigue.
7 The corrosives envelop the targets leg leaving it nothing more than a mess of bone and corroded flesh. The target’s leg count as being destroyed until repaired. He is stunned for 2 rounds takes 1d5 levels of fatigue. The target now has only one leg.
8 The corrosives eat through skin, muscle and bone severing the leg. The target takes 1d10 levels of fatigue and now suffers from corrosion. The target now has only one leg.
9 The corrosive attack consumes the leg, until little more than the half devoured bones remain. The target must take a Toughness test or die. If he survives he takes 1d10 levels of fatigue and is now suffering from Corrosion. The leg is utterly lost.
10+ The power of the attack is such that the leg is reduced to nothing but an oozing pool of red material. The target is dead before he hits the ground.

Nice; consider it adopted for my game.

Have you guys seen "Josef, The Crazy Physician"'s critical charts for WFRP?

can't say that I have.
