Forgotten Souls questions

By WarfareD, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hello! Played this coop two times and got a few questions.
1) The claudron from Room of Souls encounter can be destroyed in one turn? This room is a bit too easy for me.

2) If monsters need to engage the furthes player, and this player is blocked by others, should this monster skip this instruction or move as close as it can?

3) If monster needs to engage player, and the lava is on the way (like in Lava Tomb), should monster ignore lava? And what about pits? Should he end his turn on the lava if there are no other ways to engage the hero?

4) If there are multiple targets to attack, we chosed it using dices to select random hero. What is the correct way to do this?

1) I don't think so. Taking the cauldron is an action and moving it to the pit costs you minimal two actions (since your movement is down to 1). So you need three actions...

2) Move as close as you can.

3) No, monsters cannot go into terrain where they receive damage (somewhere in the rulebook)

4) The hero's can choose the target whichever is the most in their favor. Too bad for the monsters ;) It is already difficult enough :)

P

How are you getting rid of it in one round? Are you trying to suffer the wound and fatigue while NOT adjacent to the pit?

I would say the monster gets as close as he can.

The monster would avoid the pit for sure- as it would prevent him from getting closer. He may or may not avoid the lava. It's subjective whether or not he would skip lava, as it might be a better way to get to a hero.

1) It really can't be destroyed in one turn. The rules for a hero carrying the cauldron are so:

When the cauldron is picked up, he can only perform the action of moving one space, or destroying the cauldron by tossing it in the pit. He cannot do anything else other then that. He can't even set the cauldron down. he can still perform two actions on the turn, but once it's picked up that's the only actions he can do.

2) They have to move to the closest space possible to the furthest player. If they can't move any closer, then they don't move. This movement doesn't require LOS.

3) As the hero players, you have the benefit of deciding how the monster move, but you must have them use the pathway available that would make them use the least amount of movement points. You can technically force them to move into lava if that is the most direct path.

4) You can decide which hero gets attacked if there are multiple targets.

1) Right, I don't in mean in the first turn, rather that it takes 1 turn to destroy it as soon as you stood near the claudron. So you just move to the claudron ignoring fllesh molders, use 1 stamina to generate move point and pick it up, 2 actions two move to the pit, and suffer 2 damage and stamina to destroy it. I can't see how this strategy could fail.

2) Yep, just as I thought.

3) I see. It just there was situation when bargheist could attack the target, but that it would end up his turn on lava after this. That was a bit confusing to decide.

4) So you've selected targets from the heroe's favor point of view, right?

I disagree with the above on #3. The rules on page 9 say "Monsters cannot enter terrain that causes them to suffer damage during movement." I would interpret this to mean that they will NEVER enter lava terrain if they would take damage from doing so, even if it's the fastest route. They will go around it.

I simply didn't read that rule- you're absolutely right.

Thank you! Completely missed that part.

Got ya. Makes sense.
