Etahn A'baht..

By kopmcginty, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So the only Ewing I see in my group is Corran but I really want to get some use of Etahn.

With his pilot ability I see him being a high priority target so that leads me onto Biggs.

Where to go from there though? First thought was to simply throw lots of dice but I dont own any Z's yet so that appealing option isn't available yet.

Also I am lacking in PS so I'm thinking Wedge with swarm tactics and engine upgrade to give me a decent closer.

Etahn A'baht — E-Wing 32

Fire-Control System 2

Ship Total: 34

Biggs Darklighter — X-Wing 25

R7 Astromech 2

Ship Total: 27

Wedge Antilles — X-Wing 29

Swarm Tactics 2

R2-D2 4

Engine Upgrade 4

Ship Total: 39

That left 8 points which I have pencilled in for Biggs R7 a hoping he can get target locks going. Then R2D2 and a FCS for the so far naked Etahn rather than try to further extend Biggs lifespan.

I'm working on the basis of staying in a loose formation to protect Etahn and that R7 helps Biggs especially once things get close in. Wedge I'd play fairly conservatively to see him through to endgame.

I'm not at any official events with this so not looking for super top tier list but I'd love some feedback from more experience players. For example with his set up would people focus on Etahn once Biggs is inevitably doing what Biggs does due to Wedge being able to disengage and regen? Or will people want to stop him making it to endgame?

I came up with a home-brewed list a couple months ago that was Etahn, Wedge, and an ion-dealing Y (Salm, I think). With Wedge in the mix, most people will see him, not Etahn, as their main threat, so Biggs isn't necessary to protect Etahn (but would help Wedge survive, thereby helping your damage output). I had a Y instead of Biggs because I like Rebel control lists (and was just playing this at home for fun).

I don't play rebels ever but if you want Wedge to live to the endgame you can place R2D2 to Etahn and give him Draw their fire ept. I fail to see why R7 can be good on Biggs.

Because Biggs forces the opponent to target him and with the R7 you make the opponent reroll their attack dice

Exactly, R7 would be my sole attempt at keeping Biggs around. Much easier to know your TL will kick in defensively with Biggs as they are going to have to target you.

I could see the benifit to dropping swarm tactics for draw their fire on Wedge with R2D2 but I wonder if that's giving up too much offence for limited gains?

let me explain better (english ain't my mother tongue) :

Etahn with R2D2 and Draw their Fire will keep alive Biggs longer and once he is gone Etanh can protect Wedge.

Biggs taking a Target Lock feels weird, needs Focus token to stay alive. Swarm tactics is pretty good as can help Biggs shoot one more time than expected.

want to try this build:

  • Ten Numb (31)
    Ion Cannon (3)
  • Etahn A'baht (32)
    Veteran Instincts (1)
    R2 Astromech (1)
  • Keyan Farlander (29)
    Push the Limit (3)

Etahn works much better at the head of a swarm. Have him lead some Z-95s around and watch the crits stack up.

The Z's option is definitely on my to do list. All I need is to buy all the Z's to go in it!

Ptl + sensors + r2d2 = you're happy when your opponent wastes shots on eathn :P

Just hard to find good wingmen. Everything is brittle compared to that eathn :(

Have you considered an A swarm rather than Zs? You have 4 ships vs 5, but the A dial and 3 evade dice complement the Es dial much better, I think.

I think you want at least three ships flying with Etahn to get the most out of his ability. Either go with a Z/A Swarm, or fly him with a trio of X-Wings. You want to maximize the silly amount of crits he can put out.

So I'm not a very experienced rebel player, but last night I had great luck (or my opponents bad luck) with this Etahn list:

Etahn (32) + R2D2 (4)

Blue Squadron B-wing 22

Rookie Pilot X-wing 21

Rookie Pilot X-wing 21

My idea was to throw at least 3 dice on every attack. My opponent brought a decimator and was covered in crits in a few rounds, and I destroyed his phantom when I caught him without his cloak. Probably wouldn't fair so well against targets with higher evades, but as one of my first forays into rebels and minimal upgrade cards, I had a blast and didn't lose a single ship.
