I played my first game the other day using my Rebel fleet. My opponent had Imps with Overload Pulse, which I have a new found hatred towards because it kept screwing me up. Is there any way to deal with this with minimal impact on myself?
Dealing with Overload Pulse
Destroy the ship using it....
Other than that, no way that I know of to counter it.
I got hit with it twice by my rebel opponent. Really sucked lol...
Edited by ReirycYour movement and maneuverability should help, because OP only works after the first attack.
If the Imperials are getting shots from multiple arcs or multiple ships into your ships, On the same turn, you are doing something wrong.
Edited by Daner0023there is one very easy way to counter overload pulse:
don't get hit by an attack after you get your tokens get exhausted
because crit damage is resolved after your defense tokens, taking only a single attack (the one that triggers the pulse) effectively renders the upgrade worthless. It's only good (potentially devastating) if the opponent has follow up.
The only way to physically counter pulse is to evade the blue crit dice, which is far more probable with MM if you're that deadset against it
Edited by ficklegreendiceThis brings up an issue: does overload pulse discard exhausted tokens?
I would think the best way to counter OP as rebels would be to cancel or force a re roll of the crit. At close range or in the unlikely but possible event of rolling two crits you're kinda boned. So if it's something really bugging you maybe take mon mothma to increase the effect of your evades or electronic countermeasures to nullify his accuracy dice.
As rebels you should be quick enough to avoid the vsd front arc, and only if he spends a concentrate fire dial should they get a second blue die.
pretty sure you only discard a token (apart from int agent) if you use an exhausted token
if you exhaust an exhausted token, you acomplish **** all
hence why getting hit by only the pulse attack means pulse might as well not exist. The problem is getting hit by attacks after everything's exhausted.

Wow, do I feel dumb. Now I know why I hate OP so much...because my opponent and I were doing it all wrong! Basically I was exhausting my tokens THEN taking my damage. Won't make that mistake next time.
Ya we made that mistake a few times. My rebel opponent had it on a CR-90B and used it on me 3 games in a row yesterday. 3 Victory IIs died to bring you this information... The follow up attacks were murder. Neb-B with Salvation and Assault Frigate with enhanced armament. Ouch. I find the trouble is my opponent was smart and moved it last the turn before he used it, and first on the turn he needed it. Essentially it was out of range each time for me to attack until after I had moved, and being first player 3 games in a row made sure he got to move it in first to strip me of my defense. Super annoying.
we would've made the same mistake in our games if left to our own devices
thank the force for the Armada quick reference ![]()
I ran an Assault Frigate and two Corvettes with Overload Pulse last night. I also had two X-Wings, two A Wings, and two B Wings.
My opponent had two Victorys and a bunch bombers and Ties.
We played Superior Positions, he went first.
My plan was to shoot off his tokens with my Corvettes and then give him hard decisions with my Whale and B-Wings.
Early on, I traded a Corvette for a Victory. This worked because he had exhausted tokens one round and had to spend two of them to survive. The next round his Victory was toast.
I had his second Victory down to one token and 2 Hull and that's how it ended. Overload Pulse helped me win, but when resolved correctly, it's not really overpowered.
They just force your opponent to make hard decisions when it comes to their Defense Tokens, earlier than they would like.
