These sir are a nice shade of brilliant. I especially like the brother/sister element to the Jedi and the Smuggler since they are the ones at odds. How would that even come out?

Simple: Have the Smuggler sustain a life-threatening injury - perhaps have him be poisoned (perhaps in combat, perhaps in trusting the wrong person at the wrong time). The group has to cut and run and the closest medical center (that won't ask any questions) is a space station (perhaps a once abandoned Republic-established Clone Wars-era medical station). The only solution is a blood transfusion or organ transplant - and it has to be made from a live donor. The nurses/doctors run tests and, lo and behold, they discover that the Padawan is a compatible match. And that her compatibility is due to their familial relations.
