Two of the Special Cards ("A King Revealed" and "Crebain of Dunland") allow a player to choose one of their opponents characters. What exactly is meant by "choose" on these cards?

Does it mean:

1) Choose by simply pointing to a particular piece on the board?

or

2) Choose by naming a specific character?
