Ganks as Slicers?

By santange11, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hello all,

I am not well versed in the Star Wars universe and will soon be starting a campaign in this game. I like the idea of cyborgs and Ganks seem to fit the bill. However acording to the supplemental book they are a warrior/mercinary race. My idea (which is still well open to changes) is to make a Gank Splicer that is disgraced amongst his kind (and possibly the Hutt cartels) for not doong something or doing something wrong leading to the death of his group. In the event he linked with something that caused minor brain damage to give him a little bit of a crazy/cenile quirk.

My question to you guys is this something befitting of a Gank and if not is there a way to adjust things so it would be?

Thanks for the help.

Any concept is valid if it works for you. Going against the grain of what is considered status quo can be very interesting. This is where we get characters like Drizzt or the gentle giant from. Your Hutt performer or wookie doctor.

Don't think I'd classify Ganks as cyborgs in a traditional sense. They have some implants and cover themselves with armor. The SW universe actually allows you to turn any species into a cyborg.

Ganks don't really come off as a good player race to me. They are highly aggressive. Basically every encounter would devolve into combat if you were actually role playing a Gank. Making a gank suffer from mental illness would only seem to make him more aggressive.

Yaku might be a good pick for you though. They sound pretty quirky to begin with.

There is no 'correct' way to play a race. Play what you think will be fun and enjoy. That's all that matters.

There are a lot of species that are very aggressive. Aqualish, Weequay, Trandoshan, and Rodian all tend to be high on the highly aggressive side.

In general, Ganks could be aggressive, but a PC is special. They can be whatever you want them to be.

Zackly what mom used to tell me all the time.....

Since the Ganks are a warrior race, could the less aggression and not being a warrior be due to being an omega instead of an alpha?

It could be that you discovered vanilla ice cream and that makes you happy. It is your character. If you can conceive it, and you like it, go for it. There are not supposed to be any restraints on the races and how PCs play them. The ironic twist is what makes them more interesting to RP. The stat blocks and bonus skills etc are the mechanical boundaries imposed by the game. The backgrounds and racial info is pure fluff and to be used as you see fit, or not.

There will be *some* Ganks naturally given to not wanting to kill everyone all the time. They're an advanced species, they have technology and agriculture and industry, even if war is what they're famous for. Consider the stereotypical vocations of, say, the French- they're not all artists/chefs/writers, there's plenty of French car mechanics and postmen and sysops.

E: Just read the wiki page and apparently the only known Ganks are those who emigrated to Nar Shadaa to find work as bounty hunters and their actual society is unknown. Well, no surprise they're famously aggressive- if you judged Americans based on those who'd moved to Iraq to work in PMCs, you wouldn't get a fair impression either. I don't think you need excuses for why, in roving mercenary groups, aggressive mercenaries are the most common component and levelheaded support staff are rare.
