Raider - still At the Printer?

By mazz0, in X-Wing

Maybe just a glimmer of hope. But the status of the Tie Bomber is on the boat while I know of a few stores that have gotten it in in the past week.

Are not regional tourneys happening now in the US??

If that's correct then we won't see the raider until after it's done.

Why not? Epic release came out in the middle of regionals last year.

Just my two cents, sorry if this has already been discussed elsewhere.

Take a look at the time between first announcement of the rebel epics and their actual release:

Announcement for both: August 2013

Release Transport: April 2014

Release Tantive: May 2014

That's 8 (9) month! The raider's been announced in December 2014, do the math yourself :)

Honestly, I don't think there's anything to worry about.

Couldn't they just say that the Raider cards / pilots are not legal for regionals? Problem solved right there.

Then there's no incentive to buy it for months.

You know how there was no x-wing news today, especially none about the raider. Take it with a grain of salt but I think it means they've canned it, just like the starfield tiles. I've heard they want to go ahead all the way and cancel the whole game, I'm sorry.

Can anyone name one x-wing product with less than six months between announcement and release?

FFG has X amount of production... and now has BOTH Armada and X-wing stuff to print.. something had to give... that's MY theory!! and since Armada was receiving the BIG push the raider got pushed back....

What makes you think they are using the same factory and/or supplier for both games? There are lots of factories in China and tons of companies that do this. I don't think armada is having the effect so many would like to think it is...and even if they are the same supplier, you think ffg hasn't learned from the smash hit xwing turned out to be? I am sure they plan xwing and armada separately and have separate factories working on each. Putting both games in the same factory makes no sense and never has...

simple econ 101... is why I think that..

Then there's no incentive to buy it for months.

Hah. Who's going to wait? I know I wouldn't.

Im pretty sure both the transport and corvette were out before regionals started.

The corvette was out for May 4th (star wars day) and the transport was out about a month before that.

I just don't see FFG releasing the raider for awhile yet.

If they did the cards would have to be not tourney legal for now

Why? If its released wouldn't everyone have access to it? Also we've seen the cards for months now so wouldn't people be aware of what they do? So again why would they not be tournament legal?

I think you might be right about dates but I felt like it was in the middle of something. Maybe I am mixing it up with Wave 4 which definitely came in the middle of regionals season, so it's not like they hold back releases for it and the rules are clear that newly released material is tourney legal* immediately. We also had scum release in the middle of store champs.

* in North America - other locations it's up to the TO.

I doubt they could have it available for everyone at the same time .

I just think they held it back because they know it wasn't going to available before the start of the US regionals giving people a fair amount of time to adapt to the new toys that could have a big impact on the meta

Regionals are FFG sponsored events so they will be treating it as professionally as possible

Again, there was a much bigger shakeup last year with Wave 4. Not sure why this would be different.

I don't remember them releasing wave 4 part way through the US regionals....

Surly that would have created a lot of complaining??

People not having the New stuff to practice with/against...

I don't want to sound snarky, but what you just wrote is basically "they made a bad decision once already, why wouldn't they do it again?". They might just want to avoid such situations altogether. Especially when you think about the fact that expansion distribution is not even around the world.

Just glad I've already paid for mine as my FLGS informed me it would be upping the price because of the dollar/euro exchangerate being unfavourable.

Or favorable... from a certain point of view.

As subtly pointed out by U. :P.

They can't guarantee they will have any expansion available to everyone at the same time and that hasn't stopped them before. Once they release it and it leaves their warehouse they have no control at that point. That's where preorders are important so ffg knows how many to produce and gauge its popularity. Lastly I've yet to see something in the raider that is going to "game changing/ meta shakeup" worthy. Palpatine is the only one we don't know yet, so that's putting a lot of fear in one card. Granted he deserves such fear being the emperor and all. But still my case rests...

Your correct Jaden, no they can't guaranty to have an expansion available everywhere but that's why it makes sense to release early so everyone has a 'fair' chance to get their hands on it.

Especially more so for the big tourneys like regionals and worlds.

But seriously, have you not looked at the Tie Advanced stuff that comes with the raider?

It's defiantly going to have an impact on the tourney meta

Well, it appears I'm more clear on that one that you :)

Have you looked at MajorJuggler's thread that tracked regionals last year? https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/index.php?/topic/105107-2014-regionals-results/ There are two sets of numbers. One before Wave 4 and one after. The TIE Advanced is nowhere near the shakeup that the phantom brought.

You don't sound snarky, and I didn't say it was a bad decision. In fact, I don't think people really minded, and either way, you can't please everyone since before they had the ruling people were stuck waiting for them to change the list of "tourney legal ships" and were upset about that. If you read the rules, they have a contingency for availability elsewhere in the world outside of North America (up to the TO), which I think a lot of overseas regional tournaments exercised.

Since last year, things that have been released are immediately available for tournaments and they didn't choose to change that rule after last year so they must feel it worked out just fine as well. EDIT: They did make an announcement about the Decimator and Outrider being "not legal" for World's, basically to ease people's minds I think because they weren't released until then and that's a completely different single event vs. over the course of months.

FFG is first and foremost a business. Do you think they're going to hold product up in their warehouse (and negatively impact their business partners) for a couple months because of it's tournament season?

Well usually vassal starts using cards in an expansion a lot earlier than when the product has been physically released. I think we would have heard something by now if it was making such an impact. Don't get me wrong I'm glad there's some help coming for the advanced but I still don't see it shaking things up too much. The advanced is still an expensive ship eve with the free sensor upgrade. We will definitely see more of it in tournaments now but it really isn't going to shake things up that bad. It's not like it's adding a new mechanic to the game like phantoms and defenders did. It's just buffing an expensive ship. More along the lines of the awing refit.
