Raider - still At the Printer?

By mazz0, in X-Wing

Your correct Jaden, no they can't guaranty to have an expansion available everywhere but that's why it makes sense to release early so everyone has a 'fair' chance to get their hands on it.

Especially more so for the big tourneys like regionals and worlds.

But seriously, have you not looked at the Tie Advanced stuff that comes with the raider?

It's defiantly going to have an impact on the tourney meta

Well usually vassal starts using cards in an expansion a lot earlier than when the product has been physically released. I think we would have heard something by now if it was making such an impact. Don't get me wrong I'm glad there's some help coming for the advanced but I still don't see it shaking things up too much. The advanced is still an expensive ship eve with the free sensor upgrade. We will definitely see more of it in tournaments now but it really isn't going to shake things up that bad. It's not like it's adding a new mechanic to the game like phantoms and defenders did. It's just buffing an expensive ship. More along the lines of the awing refit.

And even if they did think it was that unfair to release in the middle of regional, it makes no sense that they'd hold back distribution for tournament players when it would delay quite a bit of profit for a small percentage of their customers. They'd simply make an announcement that it wasn't legal, but based on the way they've handled things since Imperial aces, I don't think they will even do that.

FFG has X amount of production... and now has BOTH Armada and X-wing stuff to print.. something had to give... that's MY theory!! and since Armada was receiving the BIG push the raider got pushed back....

What makes you think they are using the same factory and/or supplier for both games? There are lots of factories in China and tons of companies that do this. I don't think armada is having the effect so many would like to think it is...and even if they are the same supplier, you think ffg hasn't learned from the smash hit xwing turned out to be? I am sure they plan xwing and armada separately and have separate factories working on each. Putting both games in the same factory makes no sense and never has...

simple econ 101... is why I think that..

And I'll point to intermediate supply chain management and manufacturing 110 as to why I think what I think...

Couldn't they just say that the Raider cards / pilots are not legal for regionals? Problem solved right there.

Then there's no incentive to buy it for months.

Maybe *GASP* not everyone plays in tournaments?!!

Seriously this place needs to pull it's head out regarding tournies...THE GAME DOESN'T REVOLVE AROUND ONLY YOU!!

I know you all like to think that your games shape the game (and they do to an extent) but don't presume to think you own the business and release cycle as well. I would wager most wingers are fairly ignorant of the holy tourney scene...and wouldn't take kindly to having exciting new content delayed because Paul Heaver (peace and blessings be upon him) may not be ready...

Us casuals vastly outnumber the "pros" and represent the vast majority of this games sales...this place would do well to remember that.

There is plenty of incentive to get this out asap...it's being delayed for a reason (my guess is qc)...the tourney scene has nothing to do with it...

If FFG really thought the Tie Advanced title would somehow cause damage to the regional events going on right now, there's a fairly simple answer.

They just have to put that title and/or upgrades that come with the Raider on the restricted list. The tournament rules do after all have a list of cards not allowed in a tournament.

So for the very high cost of updating a PDF, they could keep the Tie Advanced fix out of regionals while still releasing it everyone.

now im starting to wonder if it was simply a QA issue. With Armada wave I delayed, but now finally in our hands it can't simply be shipping delays can it?

My guess is that perhaps the Raiders were unacceptable quality and FFG is having them re-made or re-painted by a different factory.

I'm fairly certain they are delaying it because they don't want the new TIE Advanced pilots to be available to some Regional tournaments and not others.

EDIT: after actually reading the rest of the thread, my comment seems useless. My bad.

If FFG releases the Raider before Regionals are done, I think all pre-raider regionals will have to be re-done.

I'm kidding. Just gimme the **** raider!

We wants the precious!

Another preview article? It's got to be on it's way soon!

Well usually vassal starts using cards in an expansion a lot earlier than when the product has been physically released. I think we would have heard something by now if it was making such an impact.

Morgan Reid won the TC Aces league with Chiraneau + new Vader with ATC. Quite a number of players in the ongoing TC Open (myself included) are trying Vader with ATC, completely forgoing the "house rules" of the event intended to buff (or break) X-Wings. I have quite a number of lists waiting on the Raider to drop because it is going to be a massive game-changer for the Imperial faction. Tempest Squadron Pilots with free Accuracy Correctors are going to be a staple of Imperial lists for many, many moons to come, and that doesn't even count the impact that several of the named pilots will have.

It's not going to re-write the meta the way that the Phantom did, but it is going to make an immediate and positive impact on Imperial list building... a far more significant impact than Chardaan Refit did for Rebels, I'll wager.

Ooh, you're making me excited (I don't know anything about the names pilots - all I know about regarding the Raider pack is the X1 and the ATC, I'm not reading any more until I get it!). :D

You should absolutely be excited. I've only been playing the game a few months, and have never fielded a TIE Advanced on the table. Having run them in several Vassal squads with the title card, however, I can tell you that these are tough little buggers to kill (even without Autothrusters) and their dial is not not all that shabby. As an Imperial player, it is refreshing to play a ship that has consistent offense that won't vanish on one bad roll of those nasty, awful, horrible things called "green dice".

Whether you go ATC or Accuracy Corrector (or something more unconventional like Advanced Sensors or Sensor Jammer), the Advanced is about to be an excellent candidate in almost any Imperial list with points to spare.

I agree it will have an impact as far as seeing more lists running advanced now however I don't think it's going to be enough to warrant FFG delaying products for.

Oh, absolutely not. They shouldn't be delaying anything for any reason. The tournament scene shouldn't ever dictate product release schedules.

Exactly! I'm also eagerly awaiting the raiders arrival too. Although one thing has me scared. This recent article said there is still one more article left regarding the raider. Usually it's the "shipping now" article so that means at least a few more weeks.

Agreed...but you'll be astonished at how many people here think it should...

They might be holding off to debut both the Raider and Wave 7 at Gencon.
