Got my Armada - Snake Plissken moment.

By Asmodi, in Star Wars: Armada

Got all my Armada delivered yesterday.

Core plus 1 of each of Wave 1.

Having never seen the game in the flesh until it was delivered I was left with a Snake Plissken moment.

"I thought it would have been bigger".

The ships are really small. I honestly felt underwhelmed by the whole thing.

On the upside I have loads of cases and foam that will hold everything off the bat.

Have you even played other miniature games? They are enormous in comparison.

exspectations :) i always wonder why i dont want to watch james bond 6 again after i already watched 1 to 7. instead james bond 8 must be the thing! totaly looking forward to it! it will be so different the the older 7 parts - hype hype! and then surprise .... its just the same as the others :(. But with part 9 everything will be different!

on the other hand if you would have exspected far less you would have been amazed!

I think its a large size the went for. You cant really do huge fleets with that scale, but its a very good size for small space engaments.

gameplay wise i think bigger wont benefit the game rules and mechanics, yes. in the end you want to have more of them on the table without occupiing all the space. also its only the S and M models and no L yet.

Small? Oh, you mean your 'small' class ships, and your 'Medium' class ship? Yeah, well. We'll see how Wave 2 shapes up won't we? ;)

Im sure it will look great on the table and yes I will get used to it very quickly.

Where I was coming from was I was looking at a lot of players paint jobs and thought they must be a decent size only to see them and think..I will need a magnifying glass to paint those lol.

Im not entirely sure why I thought they would be bigger.

The Assault Frigates are Huge. Bigger than I expected.

And when you look at the Victory and realize the upcoming Imperial is going to be bigger...?

Most of us come from X-Wing, where the fighters are roughly two inches long? That's roughly the size of most small ships. That the medium is the size more or less of the millennium falcon is impressive.

I think it's fair to say that Armada is on-par with most miniature games of the same scale, if not excessive. They're larger than battlefleet gothic ships but I think most firestorm ships are either on-par or smaller than Armada craft.

The Imperial is assumed (with lots of pixilated maths) to be around 9" long. Now, I have played Firestorm Armada, Warhammer 40k and other such games and their huge miniatures (baneblades not titans) are roughly the same length.

For a game with varying scale I am happy with the ship sizes.

Bigger Ships would have required bigger tables to play on. And yes the CR90 looks tiny at first, but when you compare its actual size in the movie they actually scaled it up so you could see the detail. And when the ISD (the ship you know and love) hits the table you will be pleased.

They might seem small at first, I had a similar thought at first, but when you look at the table and think of the newer ships coming you will see they are the right size.

I thought the models were small too compared to pictures, but when the game actually hit the table, they seemed bigger than what I had thought....
