Blaster Rifle Comparison

By Jaspor, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hey folks. The Blaster Pistol comparison I did a few weeks ago was fairly popular, so now I've done one on Blaster Rifles:

Rifles definitely add more things to consider since they have a wider range (Medium to Extreme, with Long being the most common) than Pistols. And there is also the Cumbersome quality that many of the harder hitting rifles come with.

Enjoy!

Good article, though it feels like there should be a part two to this. Covering the various weapons might be exhaustive, especially with the later sourcebooks, but it would give some groups a better understanding.

That being said, great job with the rifle article. The Gunnery article is going to be interesting, while the special weapons article would probably be going over situations.

I am also curious about an article on modifications, more specifically the underbarrel weapons.

Thanks! Yeah, there are a ton of weapons, so I'm trying to keep each chunk small for easier digestion.

Modifications are definitely on the agenda. I think there's a lot of personal preference when choosing between some of them, but it'll definitely be interesting to explore.

Do not discount the Relby K-23, for 600 creds and a rarity of 6 you get 6 damage and pierce 2. Great for the new character that takes a little extra for the boost in creds to pick up. Sorry, that was a reference to the blaster pistols.

On topic:

I like the SKZ for the RP background, it goes with a rugged archaeologist or scout type considering it mentions it is a hardy weapon.

I know you aren't factoring in attachments in the comparison, but I feel it would be remiss not to mention the bow caster's singular access to auto-fire in exchange for a single hard point (not to mention the amazing bonus offered by the accelerator). While they don't come with, I am yet to see a player who didn't add both at the time of purchase.

You know, I totally missed that since it doesn't mention it in the description of the weapon itself and I totally forgot about that modification option. You're right, it is worth mentioning, my bad.

No one's bad, just glad I could be helpful! I probably wouldn't remember myself if I didn't have so many players show interest in them.

On another note, i just looked over your blaster pistols guide and I noticed you didn't add damage to the equalizer for the superior quality. I know a lot of items with the superior quality specifically state "the damage from the superior quality is included in this profile" (like the ryyk blade), but the equalizer doesn't. I always assumed that meant the weapon was 7, crit 2 +superior (for 8, crit "1"). Thoughts?

The Equalizer is very confusing and that question comes up around here every once in awhile. We did get an answer from one of the developers (Sam Stewart) though, and he said that the +1 for the Superior quality was in fact included in its base stats listed, although the automatic advantage was not:

Ah that was always a tipping point for me, c'est la guerre I suppose. Thanks for the info anyway!

Hey folks. The Blaster Pistol comparison I did a few weeks ago was fairly popular, so now I've done one on Blaster Rifles:

http://www.d20radio.com/main/?p=474

So, one thing I’d like to see here is a link to a Google Docs spreadsheet that has all the information in question. That way, I could click on the column headings to sort by different criteria. Moreover, the Google Docs spreadsheet could be updated with new information when it comes out, whereas the tables in the article would be harder to update.

Just a thought. ;)

That is a good point.

However, with the articles, they can go a bit more in depth and can also be narrowed, such as being only for EotE only or AoR only. In addition, the articles can also be referenced to later on, such as after a series of campaigns or when FFG decides to change rules and such.

Arguments can be made for both. However, I personally feel that an Article will be able to narrow down the advantages and disadvantages while also encouraging debate as well.
