Fun with Decals

By jeepnut42, in X-Wing

That's the same stuff I have, got it a couple years ago and then got some last year again. My LGS has a train section and has lots of decal paper for just this purpose.. I was wondering what you had used as I like your decals.. look a lot like mine.. lol. I did a lambda as a school bus and use large cogs on all wings and the nose and a banner across the bottom of the top fin that says... in aurabesh.. Coresant school district and I have a district number on it too.. pics are on the first page of the Lambda thread if your interested..

I need to put stop signs on the underside of the wings and ship it off to SableGriffon, as he was the inspiration for the repaint..

If you go down the road of using decals, jump on Microsol and Microset. They are a must, particularly on any 3d surface.

I often lay a coat of gloss varnish down, apply the microset, the decal, microsol until decal is sift and where I want it. Then when dry hit it with some gloss until the decal edge disappears, then coat with matte to lose the shine. End result is flawless.

Yup, cant agree more... micro sol and set are a must especially for the decal paper we are using here.. this one mentioned above is thick, and you dont need to coat it. The ink settles into the paper really well.. I was bored and watched it once lol.. I've had great luck with it even on small decals, I have smaller rebel pheonix ones for the wings of my A wings and larger ones for the Bwings...

The manufacturer of this paper recommends against micro-sol and advises to use lighter fluid. it's what I used and it worked perfectly.

The one on the nose of the headhunter is about as small as you could reasonably see any detail on, and it worked perfectly. The ones of the panels of the tie sit totally smooth on the panel lines.
