A long read, but a good one: WIRED's oral history of ILM.
Good read. I liked this line best...
"SPIELBERG: I always thought that if ILM had run the space agency we’d have colonized Mars by now."
I will always remember when I was 9 and walked into the theater to see Star Wars for the first time, I had no idea what the movie was really about, other then it was a sci-fi thing.
Nothing could of prepared me for the first scene where that ship was firing lasers back at this massive ship that just kept going and going and going.
Nothing like that had ever been done before, and I always feel a little bit sorry that so many people will never be able to experience the utter awe I felt seeing it for the first time.
Edited by VanorDMI have a small, terrible hope that someday Disney will re-release the original theatrical cut of Star Wars for theaters. I'm a dad in my thirties and I would still be there for a 12:01am showing on opening day.
They did re-release them on the 25th anniversary. Here's to hoping they do it on the 50th!
2027 can't come soon enough...

My son will be 13. Perfect timing.
