Need 6 Solid Lists for some Gen Con fun!

By Warklaw, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hello All

I need some help and thought I would leverage the knowledge and expertise of this awesome community to get it. I will be attending Gen Con with six friends from all over the country and we simply do not get to play enough games together. I am also an X-Wing enthusiast that just does not get to play enough, even though I have been collecting hordes of ships. So to that end, and since we don't want to spend/waste hordes of time building lists rather than playing the game I thought I would bring a few well built squads lists, the needed ships, and brief on the strengths, weaknesses, and how to play them so my friends and I can jump right in and play.

So that that end... what are some solid fun squad lists? I am looking for about six lists with a good mix of factions 2 Rebel, 2 Imperial, 2 Scum and I would favor lists that have shown to be competitive in the tournament scene (competitive meaning holding up pretty well, top 3 type).

Any help you would be willing to offer or direction to information sources that might get it would be great.

  • Squad List
  • Strengths/Weakness
  • Key Strategy to play

I haven't played a lot of games but I have been checking out this forum and a few others trying to get a handle on the game. From what I have seen, these seem to be the top lists:

Rebels:

Fat Han or Chewie

Super Dash

Imperials

RAC and Fel

Swarm

Scum

Dual IG-88

???

hope that at least gives you a starting idea.

Other ideas from these good ones:

Rebels - anything with 3-4 B Wings

Imperial - 3 named interceptors

Scum - Xizor and Zs, Dual Firespray, aggressive y wings with engine and unhinged.

3 Ace A-Wings is always fun, also I've been doing well with:

Corran Horn - FCS, Expose, R2-D2, Shield Upgrade

3x Prototype Pilot - Autothrusters, Chardaan Refit

I should add my most played scum list:

Boba Fett, Warthog Y-wing, and 2x Binayre Pirates.

Someone should take my list to GenCon since I can't make it.

Corran Horn

Advanced Sensors

Push the Limit

R2-D2

Engine Upgrade

Gold Squadron Pilot

BTL-A4

Ion Cannon Turret

R3-A2

Gold Squadron Pilot

BTL-A4

Ion Cannon Turret

Bomb Loadout

Proximity Mines

Corran takes two actions before revealing a green maneuver. The he ends the turn without stress. Green also regenerates a shield. In the late game this Corran build is nearly impossible to kill for any single ship. And at 49 points it's fairly difficult for someone who runs away to get a full win without killing him.

The Prox Y goes out front, takes damage at range, then runs into their front line next round. If he lives he hops over them and drops the prox on somebody.

The r3a2 Y just throws 2 stress at whoever their ace is every turn. He ends the game with lots of stress but basically switches off a lot of ships. IG, Fel, Dash, Corran, token-heavy Falcons all just fall apart after the third stress lands on them.

I made top 8 at regionals and I had only played one game in the 6 weeks prior. It's a really great list if someone has time to practice with it.

100-pt build - Optionally replace Biggs with another BTL/Ion Y-wing, FCS on the B's, and put mechs on the Y wings.

Y Wing Gold Squadron Pilot (18)

BTL-A4 (0)

Ion Cannon Turret (5)

2 x B wing Blue (22)

X Wing Biggs (25)

R2-D2 (4)

Shield Upgrade (4)

Here's a fun list for Scum, It placed top 8 in local pre-Reg tourney,

Emon + title + 3 x prox + K4

2 x thugs + title + Ion TC + unhinged + bomb LO + seismic ( you could drop a seismic and go for R4 agros on the Y's, they really throw the pain!)

100 pts

pretty good against most lists depending on its flown, watch out for swarms, and pred.

squnts and phantoms hate these guys, you never know where a prox will show up on your windshield...Emon is a dangerous SOB!

cheers and good luck!

Bombs away!!

If the other guys have not played before, you may not want to go with competitive lists. There is going to be a lot of movement mechanisms that can be frustrating to a new player, much less keeping up with what all of the upgrade cards can do along with tokens. They're going to be lucky to dodge asteroids and aim at swarms. Figuring out arc-dodging away from firing arcs might end up frustrating and a crumpled ball of flame.

Go through the New Player List Guide:

Pick out some of the lists that are solid, but easier to pick up so that ALL of you have fun.

Thanks everyone for the great input, and the advise on the new player list (which makes a lot of sense), I was definitely planning on some basic tie fighter vs Xwing lists to start from, but wanted to give them a chance to try/see some robust squad builds. I have found in the past the new player can quickly dismiss the game based on just the few first games and wanted to counter that with some depth and variance.

Someone should take my list to GenCon since I can't make it.

Wow! I love playing with Y's and it's very interesting seeing how those ships runs with E-wing! I'll try it :)

How does it runs? It seems diffent :) i like it!
