Iron Fist Campaign – Capture Keehla Rigor

By matthewsylvester, in X-Wing

If anyone could suggest a ship other than the HWK290 that they think would be a good replacement (since it doesn't actually do much during the game), it would be greatly appreciated.

Looks interesting, but could use some work I think.

Mainly, you should clarify what you mean for each rule you introduce. For example, you require line of sight for shots on Rigor. How do you determine line of sight in X-wing? I could think of a couple of different ways, so you should be clear what you mean there. Approach each new rule you introduce as though you were presenting it to a brand-new player who has no idea what you're talking about. Be as clear as possible.

I also think that forcing Imperials to only take unique pilots is a little weird. unless you have a good reason for it, I'd remove that list-making restriction.

Also, 60 minutes is not a long time for a 300-point game. I think you'll have trouble finishing the scenario in time, and may have a lot of draws.

I also think you should try using mission control for your scenario; it's an easy way to write a scenario, with a good map-making tool.

As for Rigor's ship, a HWK works fine for a scummy dude.

300 point game takes 30 min per round .soooo... 120-169 min game

Thanks for the suggestions chaps. Will amend, and bear in mind the amount of time required.

I've now had a go at putting this into Mission Control. Shame that the description box is so small, and the map tool will take me a while to get used to, but on the whole a very handy tool indeed!

One thing I'd add is do it as some kind of roster system for future games, the reason being what we refer to as suicide run syndrome. Basically focusing on the objective using red army tactics, achieving what would realistically be a Pyrrhic victory.

Basically if mithel is shot down, make it so he is either down and out on a dice roll or permenantly.

I like the idea of epic campaign, though typically i use 200 points and bring out 3-400 point epicsparingly. Afterall, why is capturing this fella so important they'd divert a capital class ship when a shuttle or transport would suffice.

Lastly as a replacement for the HWK... ANYTHING YOU WANT. Invent the stats, get a ship from mels mini's and paint it up, the sky is not the limit when you are in space!

I'd add possibly use SCUM as the third faction with "AI" rules for his escorts maybe.

Darius is right about SRS here; it could be a real big problem. The other thing about scenarios that suffer from SRS is that it tends to suck out the fun from the gameplay. If both players are absolutely focused on killing/defending one ship, the game largely becomes a contest of dice, instead of a dogfighting game.

Good scenarios always force players to make tough decisions. If there is only one good decision to make (and it is obvious), the game becomes less interesting.

Thanks chaps, sorry for the late reply, I didn't get any notifications!

For a lot of the missions, I'll be hiding the true consequences of certain actions, whereas other scenarios will be just to give the play a greater understanding of the campaign as a whole. I've also started to write scenarios for Armada players, so they'll be doing the macro side of things. And (because I don't have enough on my plate already), I've also just bought Age of Rebellion so that I can tie that into the campaign as well. At a MUCH later date, since RPG adventures take much longer to write. Hopefully people are still visiting to see the other missions at http://starwarsxwingironfistcampaign.wordpress.com
