Drafting 2ed

By LeWho, in General Discussion

Are there any news on draft sets for 2nd edition?

My playgroup have been playing 1ed draft a lot in the past year or so, and we are eager for 2nd edition draft. When can we expect draft sets and starters for 2nd edition to appear?

I imagine it will be a little while. For the draft set to work, you need to be able to pull good draft cards from a reasonable pool of already developed cards. Not every constructed card is a good draft card, and FFG probably doesn ' t want to design too many cards FOR the draft cycle. At a completely stab-in-the-dark estimate, I would say the earliest would be Worlds 2016 (By which time they ' ll hopefully have 2 released full cylces, a deluxe box or two, and at least one cycle with the design completed to draw from).

With the news articles staring I would guess the starter will land in July.

Just to clarify: the starter (or Core) box for 2.0 is launching at Gencon, the last week of July - no need to guess! The original poster was asking about specific support for the Draft format, which I don 't expect until at least a year down the road.

Yes I agree with Istaril. The card pool will need to be a bit larger before a draft card pool can really be established. I actually think we will be waiting at least 2 years before it can really be figured out. This is actually also true because of having 2 new factions and how it may be a little slower in building each factions card pool. I imagine that adds to the difficulty in establishing a draft card pool.

They said in an article last November that the final block of 1E Draft will roll over until there's enough 2e cards to make a decent draft. I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't see a draft set until they were ready to start spoiling cards from the first deluxe and second chapter pack cycle.

(Because Netrunner's first Draft set sucked with just Core and Genesis Cycle)

We played the first and second Netrunner draft sets extensively and tbh we vastly prefer the first one.

I kinda know what and when to expect but i was wondering has there been any snippets of official info I might have missed regarding plans for the draft format for 2nd ed.

I haven't heard anything about 2E drafting yet I'm afraid.

I'm also willing to bet that FFG wants to dedicate their resources to getting 2E up and running before committing anything to draft. Maybe even by designing the first deluxe box and chapter pack cycle before even thinking about a draft pool. Netrunner had the first deluxe box out and it was included in their first draft pool, right? Maybe that is a good precedent to consider.

From Nate's "The Things We Do For Love" article:

Additionally, just as the CCG era cards remained a popular draft option well into the time frame of the LCG era, the Westeros and the Ice and Fire draft pools will continue to see support at major AGoT events while the new edition expands to a size that can support a draft format of its own.

LeWho, really? After two draft events with Cyber War set, I found it to be very stale and uninspiring.

Thanks for the info, i missed that !

My rough estimate is that we played 20+ events with Cyber War, and circa 10+ with the second set.

Our one big gripe with Netrunner drafts is that there are no influence/faction caps so the overall strategy is to pick the best card. Cyber war is lower-powered, so it provides, in our opinion, a more leved field, and even last picks can sometimes shine. There are some archetypes you can draft with those late picks, some quite unexpected (Deep Thought runner for example), Overall, I feel that cyber war lends itself to more strategic drafting.

Also, most of our playgroup are guys who played original netrunner and the first draft set plays very similar to the original base edition - that scores it some additional points with us.

I can see that.
