OL/Plot combos?

By Llez, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

I'm going to be starting up an Heirs of Blood campaign and was curious if any of you guys have found any neat interactions with plot, OL, and minion abilities? The only 'neat' one I know, that I've used once already, is infector + Bol'goreth. Lots of diseases and infections running around with some nonsense with ranged units and infection tokens. I always get a little overwhelmed picking a plot deck when i start a new game...

We allways pick the plot deck at random. Forces the overlord of each campaign to develop new tactics instead of reusing Zachareth or Mirklace.

I hope each heroes also pick their class at random? :)

More or less. We try not to use a class again until all possible classes have been used. Sadly thats not possible as there are fewer mage and healer classes. Same goes for heroes.

I've found that Alric+Infector is quite useful. Mirklace is really good on its own, whatever your deck (so is Zachareth.) I second Indalecio's opinion- forcing the OL to pick a threat deck at random is unfair unless the heroes do the same- it's a closer equivalent to class than the traditional OL cards..

I am using Belathur and the sabatour deck right now. And you have to use the Basic I deck. You can make Belathurs cards very very cheap. Even paying 0 for some and denying heroes the use of threat tokens.

Yeah, the random plot sounds like a really bad idea for me lol. I havent looked at Belthir + sabateur, i'll have to give that a look. Same with Alric + Infector.

Infector works well with stalling tactics, so any plot deck that drags things out will do fine.

I'm currently playing with Skullduggery (Raythen plot deck) which is really handy for denying certain search cards to heroes (Managed to prevent the heroes from getting to a treasure chest at the end of the last quest we played), and is really just for messing with the treasure hunter a bit. I'm focusing on Infector as well, but I wouldn't say it has any great combinations with that deck.

One combo I would recommend if you enjoy killing heroes is Tristyan deck with Warlord deck.

The critical cards are expert blow (+2 hearts on an attack), Wild energy (add a ~), and Power and Sacrifice (sack 2 health to increase damage 2). Make sure to use basic 1 for rerolls.

Oooh, i like that one...plus i like Tristayn's mini. Necromancers 4 lyfe!

If you go with Tristayn deck you also want to get

Mortal Coil: So nice to bring back a master shadow dragon after they kill it for a revenge! Best plot card ever.

Love of Chaos: you need the threat. Try to use on kobolds or ogres. Very fun to attack with a master ogre, kill it and then attack with replacement minion!

Oh and Tristayn agent is fun as well. Try to summon with kobolds!

And for more fun can mix with infector cards. Get tainted blow.

Then if you get things lined up you can get painful hits.

In act2 with agent tristayn you can get BRY dice +2 (P&S) +2 expert blow, +1 Tainted blow, +3 critical blow, + 3 surge ability, +3 chaotic energy. That's +14 over base roll!

Warning with this setup, your heroes may stop playing.

Thats pretty brutal, which would be nice for once. I'll have to give that one a shot, or at least add it to the list of combos.

If that is not brutal enough for you, add in the Manor of Ravens expansion. If you win the act2 quest, you get a monster relic which allows your master monster to attack through a minion. Then get an open group of kobolds with the Trystain agent. Can then just run a minion monster up to a hero and remotely attack with Trystain from a safe distance and then as he has ravage to it again! Of course the other kobolds can take damage for him due to his ability.
