How do you usually deal with such trouble?

By tommy005, in X-Wing Off-Topic

I downloaded a player yesterday. But now I find certain ads pop up on the visiting page. When I click my game desktop icon, it runs rather slowly. I read carefully to those ads and find small words on them like ‘Dragon Branch ads’ in the bottom.

Have you ever heard of it? How do you usually do to stop nasty things?

Any advice is appreciated.

First, I'd go thru your program list to see if something also got installed when you installed your player. Then download Spybot or Norton Eraser. They will clean up malware and such. They dont do much for viruses but I doubt you have one.

Spybot used to be great, but I quit using it a few years ago because it became as much a problem as the ones it fixed.

MalWare Bytes is something I use at work when other official things do not. ( I work in the IS Dept of a Hospital, and am unfortunately in charge all things Virus/Malware)

We use TrendMicro OfficeScan and Server Protect for most everything.

Yeah Malware is what I use here, also part of the IS dept for my company. We've also used Superantispyware. CCleaner is also a great tool to use when your system is running slow, makes it easy to look at the start up stuff and disable without deleting it.

Both of them you really need to either uninstall or at least turn off the 'scan in real time' stuff.

What player did you DL?

I don't download dodgy software to begin with :P

I use tend micro. They have a product I'm currently too sleepy to remember the name of that dud a great job killing some malware.

It’s said that malwares always drop undesired add-ons or files to the system. So it’s advisable to uninstall its related software from Control Panel at first. Then remove suspicious browser extensions. To search and clean out registry files and temp files in the system is also important and necessary. Google from this post .

In addition, remember to add an ad blocker to your browser extension.

Hope this helps!
