ATM I am looking for a new gaming table where I can play 3rd edition with my group (group of 3 players - formerly I had 4, but I can afford the basic set) and I am wondering which size I should take to be able to play the game conveniently? Any guesses?
Table size for 3rd edition?
A normal sized living room or kitchen table should be enough. Though my personal preference for any rpg gaming to have room to most stuff - 6 by 4 feet table is the right size , with enough space in the middle
We playtested on a 3' * 5' dining room table with up to 7 people round it. That was a bit of a squeeze, but we were also using print-outs that were twice the size they should have been. With 5 people round the table we had no problems at all. I would honestly say the game takes up no more room than any other rpg despite the bits and pieces. And it takes up less room than a game that uses battle mats and grids.
You can play with more than 3 people with only the basic set. It's in the FAQ. Three people is the suggested number. I suppose if your players can't figure out how to set an action card in between them so they can both look at it, you might have problems.
In summary: The basic set is not limited to only 3 players.
In my sessions, a normal dinning room table is almost alway ok. We'we even played on the floor of a small room and made it work. Most tables will work it's just a matter of imagination. :-)
