YT-2400, HLC and Outrider Title

By Saviant, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hello I am new to the game and fell in love with the YT-2400. My question is in regards to the HLC and Outrider Title. When you have the HLC and the outrider title equipped does the HLC become a primary weapon or does it stay a secondary weapon? And also if it is a secondary weapon does it give the enemy +1 Defense Dice for shooting at Range 3?

Thanks in advance for the answers

HLC is always a secondary weapon

Secondary weapons do not receive any range bonuses for either the attacker or defender

The Outrider title disallows your ability to use your primary weapon, not replace it.

If you do happen to lose your secondary weapon being used by the Outrider title then your Primary weapon does become active again.

And while you have the HLC equiped with the outrider title, you CANNOT use your primary weapon... meaning you cannot shoot a ships at range 1 (hlc is range 2-3 only). And the only way to unequip the hlc is to have it destroyed via damage card.

Which is why I use dat Mangler Cannon son :P

Thanks for the replies, I thought that was the case but I just wanted to clarify for when I am playing next.

If a secondary cannon is then the turret and you cannot use the primary weapon then how does Gunner work on this? If there are no extra Def Die granted from a secondary weapon then I got screwed at my first tournament I went to, because everyone I played was taking an extra Def Die at range 3 from my equipped Mangler Cannon. Where would I find this in the rules?

Thx

Page 10 of the core rulebook.

thx, found it very bottom of the page. any ideas on the mangler w/ outrider title and gunner? since gunner says attack with primary weapon after failing to hit with initial attack?

what I mean is, is Gunner completely useless then on a YT-2400 with the Outrider title card while you have an equipped cannon?

Gunner and Outrider are pretty much incompatible. One only allows you to use a Primary Attack with it while the other shuts off the Primary Attack. IF you had your Cannon shot off then Outrider's effect would end and the Primary Attack could be used again along with Gunner but that is a pretty small window.

ok, thx for the clarification any suggestions on who would make a better crew member for Dash?

this was my fleet at the tournament in question

1. YT-2400 w/ Dash, V.I., Mangler, Assault Miss, Gunner, Munitions failsafe

2. Y-Wing w/ Horton, Ion Cannon Turr.,Bomb Load, Proton Torp., R5P9, Engine Upgrade, Seismic Charges.

Went 3 and 1, though the gunner mistake wasn't caught by anyone, I think it evened out with everyone taking an extra die at range 3 from the mangler.

Recon Specialist is always good on 3 attack, 2 agility ships as it'll give you 1 focus for offense, and 1 for defense.

Kyle Katarn is also a popular option on YT-2400's, often used in conjunction with PTL and EU.

I started using Nien Nunb over Kyle Kararn on my Dash-Boat. I find that getting rid of the stress (in a less predictable way) has been more useful in the long run than gaining focus tokens which I may or may not use. Keeping Dash out of arc sometimes means going big on the dial - and if I am stressed, Nien makes up the difference. I guess I would rather be out of arc with PTL and EU, set up for a shot without focus, than be forced to choose another green maneuver that leaves me in arc, with a shot with a focus. I opt out of Rec Spec for the same reason - seems to play well with my style at least.

Kyle is the only crewman that improves your damage without requiring specific actions to be taken, other than Gunner.

SuperDash wants to Barrel-Roll often, and is also happy to boost.

I also like to tank up with R2D2. Shield regeneration behind 2 agility is much more frustrating for your opponents than behind 1.
