CR92a Assassin-class Corvette [upcoming card]

By DiabloAzul, in Star Wars: Armada

After seeing Utar's lovely models I figured I might as well do a card for the CR-92a Assassin-class Corvette.

To be honest, it feels like the CR90 Corvette A is already statted as the militarized Assassin-class (also known as the "Modified Corvette"). And increasing the shields, hull or firepower stats would likely stray into frigate territory. My initial instincts, then, are to change the bare minimum, and stat it as follows:

Hull: 4 (unchanged)

Shields: 2/2/1 (unchanged)

Defense: Evade, Brace, Redirect (more armor, less maneuverability)

Command: 1 (unchanged)

Squadron: 1 (unchanged)

Engineering: 2 (unchanged)

Anti-squadron: 1 blue (unchanged)

Gunnery:

-Front: RRUB (+1 black: this thing has a proton torpedo launcher)

-Broadsides: RU (unchanged)

-Rear: U (unchanged)

Speed & Yaw:

@1: II (unchanged)

@2: I, I (slightly less maneuverable)

@3: -, I, I (slightly less maneuverable)

@4: -, I, I, I (slightly less maneuverable)

Upgrades: Officer, Turbolaser, Defensive Retrofit, Offensive Retrofit, Weapons Team (more combat-oriented than the CR90, and capable of carrying fighters when modified)

The cost will go up a little, but not much. Maybe 47?

I'll also make a title card for the Archer and possibly some others, but I haven't thought too much about those yet. Watch this space.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

I am a fan of the brace being added in place of the 2nd evade. Does make it a tougher nut to crack.

Something like this...

if you add a dice to the front going to need to be more then 2 extra points.

I dunno about the offensive retrofit slot. Does it really need expanded hangers? I would say, to keep it simple, drop that slot.

He reduced the Yaw-Value instead for speeds over 1

And I agree with Corvette, the Offensive Retrofit seems a bit too much. The basic corvette has four mod-slots, I'd take one away, as this one is already strongly modded, giving it (only) the crew, ions and turbolaser slots.

I agree as well, lose the offensive retrofit. 4 dice in the front arc also seems a little high for such a small ship. Maybe lose one red?

You could've said all that before I went ahead and made the card :D

In a way I agree with most of your comments, but do keep in mind that the 92a was a combat upgrade over the 90, so it wouldn't feel right to make it worse. As I mentioned in the OP, the CR-90 A is already strongly overstatted, which makes things a little difficult. I'm going for a ship that is very slightly better on the board, but mostly just a sidegrade.

-A single black die without the ordnance upgrade isn't going to change anything (if a corvette is that close to an enemy ship, its life expectancy probably isn't too great), and is the bare minimum armament increase. Perhaps I'll drop it, but removing a red would be a substantial downgrade over the standard.

-Offensive retrofit distinguishes the 92a from the 90, and allows for expanded hangars (supported by some sources) which turn this into a fighter-support role. But I'm not terribly attached to it; I guess I'll remove it when I revise the card. I certainly won't drop another slot, though.

I decided to revert the armament to match the CR90A, and to remove the Offensive Retrofit upgrade slot, as you suggested. Instead, I increased Engineering by 1 (to reflect the uprated hull and shields), which should make it somewhat less fragile. I kept the increased cost and the decreased yaw rates.

Here are two title cards for it:
Title%20-%20Archer.jpg
Title%20-%20Kraken.jpg

Archer partially restores the lost maneuverability, while Kraken improves Squadron dials (or feeds Liaison officers).

Liaison Officers on a CR90? Highly unlikely and superfluous, as they have a command of 1. I'd give the Kraken instead a squadron 2, 6 points is okay, aws exp. hangars is 5, but it doesn't use up a slot.

And I liked the additional black dice in the front batteries. A really circumstancial edge, as CR90 don't want to be so close, but, if used well, it may make a big difference.

Are you going to make a CR92b with ionguns?
