What is Enhanced Scopes actually useful on?

By ParaGoomba Slayer, in X-Wing

Optional would make it useful. As it is, an upgrade that says 'You may never arc dodge' is horrific for half the ships have have system upgrades.

The very idea that Academy pilots would be outmaneuvering me, or Alpha Squadron arc dodging is horrific.

It's surprisingly mean on ig2000, when you can't be blocked by a tie swarm, and you are doing sloops or boosts, it's good. It worsens the target lock action, but the freedom to block, very good. It's almost like advanced sensors in some ways, but cheaper for its drawbacks. It sounds worse on paper than it is in action.

It also has a few fun tech combos, squad leader green squadron with a ten numb + enhanced scopes...

Honestly it's not horrible on the aggressor. They die insanely fast when blocked in and ps 6 means they're in the worst spot for movement, so it's actually not bad to let them move first.

It will also be fun on bomb focused punishers, while missile or torpedo punishers should take fcs.

In theory you could use this with Kagi + APL to turn him into a 30 points heavy obstacle, which attracts enemy fire.

It's true i penned in my mates aggressor for three turns with a pair of z-95's and still did damage thanks to feedback array.

My one tournament win thus far included Enhanced Scopes. Kagi with it and Anti-Pursuit Lasers went bowling for B-Wings. :P

In theory and in practice!

What did you do with the remaining 70 points?

What did you do with the remaining 70 points?

Always have initiative.

Well, what about the following:

Captain Kagi (33)

Enhanced Scopes

Mara Jade

Anti-Pursuit Lasers

Carnor Jax (31)

Push the Limit

Autothrusters

Academy Pilot (12) x3

The most overpriced upgrade in the game, not even worth the single point it costs.

OK...I have to say that Expose is the most overpriced upgrade. Not only is it 4 pts, but it takes an action.

Before EI sure but now thats out there expose can be made to work with certain builds.

I think expose for 2 points could be really legit.

Or Expose with no action at 4 pts. There are a lot of workable options, but not as is.....even with EI. It's better with EI, but I'd still call it the most expensive upgrade that isn't worth it.

It's spectacular on a Phantom, but you need to be an ace pilot in planning your moves.

Want to really screw with your opponent's brain? Have a bunch of ships with Swarm Tactics and chain off of it. You can take over the entire field and action deny every one of your opponents ships all at once.

Enhanced Scopes doesn't really interact with Swarm Tactics at all. Enhanced Scopes affects the Activation phase while Swarm Tactics affects the Combat Phase.

The idea is to move first and make blocking your ships impossible but also shoot first and hopefully destroy some action-less ships.

In other words, move at zero PS due to Scopes and then use Swarm Tactics to shoot at a high PS.

Now it's a 7 point upgrade. That make Expose cost as much as an HLC but deal a stress and cost an agility to use. It really only works on a single ship that was more or less built for Expose.

Now, Flight Instructor, Elusiveness, and Saboteur are all more overpriced for what you get than Enhanced Scopes.

I guess the Daggers would be able to block should they face another BBBB(Z) list.

Generally when I run a shuttle at 2 PS it's moving before my opponent's super ship list anyways, and it typically ends up getting blocked because something of higher PS got in front of it last turn and I was forced to bump into it. I don't see how Enhanced Scopes would help an 8 PS shuttle.

APL's and all, but I've ran the 3x ORS APL troll build before. You need mobility for that. Lambda would get to block... once and spend the rest of the game turning around lol. Also APL sucks, putting another point into it is a waste.

Enhanced Scopes is overcosted by 100% :P

I agree. Enhanced Scopes should have been:

During the Activation phase, you may treat your pilot skill value as "0".

Then it would be worth the 1 point. Should have been 0 points with the current wording.

When I was thinking about combinations for it, the only problem I came upon was that it's a system upgrade. Had it been a modification, I might find some use for it.

Perhaps even on a B-Wing.

Oh that reminds me: how about Enhanced Scopes with Intelligence Agent and Stay On Target on Keyan Farlander?

That's partly right! And in fact I don't think I actually had APL on there for the tournament - the build has changed significantly since the release of Autothrusters and more. Pretty sure it was:

Kagi + ES

Carnor Jax + PTL + Hull

Rexlar Brath + Predator

And to be fair, it was mostly the Carnor Jax show. However, unexpectedly parking a Shuttle in front of multiple B-Wings for multiple turns was, in fact, an important strategic move.

It works fine with APL.

I've been wanting to try APL + Enhanced Scopes on dual Aggressors. Unfortunately, I don't have Enhanced Scopes so I haven't been able to fool around with it.

It's to keep you from being blocked and to allow you to always be the blocker. It will also have use with the TIE Punisher and bombs.

Yes it's a terrible card for various reasons. CCGs need to have bad cards. It makes deck-building more challenging and makes people feel smart when they can tell that a card is bad (or when they find a use for a card that everyone else thinks is bad).

No, CCGs have bad cards to make you waste money. That entire line from the magic designers is a load of crock.

A tabletop game has no place for useless cards. Better everything be good and better players rise from a vast pool of somewhat situational choices.

Still rather have Advanced Sensors.

Yeah, enhanced scopes and SoT just means you won't get an action. Sure, stress is like an action for farlie but a TL or barrel roll are usually pretty handy.

Yeah I think Kagi or really any APL shuttle is the best use for the scopes, park somewhere you think people will go, stop some actions, get some extra damage with any luck and in the case of kagi, get your action, and draw some target locks, though sensor jammer is also nice if he's drawing the TLs, the scopes are cheaper and lead to less need for him to shoot and just let himself get rammed.
