What is Enhanced Scopes actually useful on?

By ParaGoomba Slayer, in X-Wing

The most overpriced upgrade in the game, not even worth the single point it costs.

I hear that it's pretty good on a generic phantom run as a blocker, but is a blocker worth 26 points really a good idea? I mean an ORS maybe, but something as fragile as an uncloaked Phantom?

I heard 4x Dagger Squadron and 4x Enhanced Scopes suggested once. On the surface this seems good, but that's only because you're flying 4 B Wings. Why not just fly 4 Daggers at 96, or slap 2x E2 and 2x Intel Agent or something into the build?

I run it on shuttles.

It will be very good on the new tie punisher.

It'd be great on the Defender, if the Defender actually had the slot for it. ;)

Eh, I find being able to K-Turn after the OPFOR, to put my Defender where they used to be, is extremely useful. But that's just me.

Why? I would think you'd want to move later in the activation order, in order to acquire Target Locks on lower-skilled pilots in the opening joust to use your long-range ordnance.

It's why I plan on paying the points for the higher PS generic K-Wings.

It's spectacular on a Phantom, but you need to be an ace pilot in planning your moves.

Want to really screw with your opponent's brain? Have a bunch of ships with Swarm Tactics and chain off of it. You can take over the entire field and action deny every one of your opponents ships all at once.

If you think someone is going to try and block your high PS pilot I could see it being used as basically a cheaper advanced sensors, Arvel Crynyd would love it, but he lacks the slot.

Actually the one amazing choice is capt kagi. The shuttle has so little mobility it's always blocked at ps8. Although this is just basically a budget adv sen. But using kagi as a blocker makes sense for the shuttles large frame.

Also good in epic on kagi who is an utter beast. Completely negates a lot of crazy action shenanigans.

And yes, to echo Bloodstripe Baron's comment, it'll be brutal on the Punisher. Moving first, dropping bombs/mines before *anyone* else gets to move... yes please!

ooooh, I didn't even think of this

remember guys, punisher is a bomber which means he gets access to fun things...like prox mines :D

need to see the pilot abilities a little more clearly, though

Shuttles for sure.

Phantoms to a lesser degree after decloak change.

It works fine with APL.

Seems it's main use is making your ship a blocker or avoiding blockers.

I just can't reason to use it over other systems.

Enhanced Scopes doesn't really interact with Swarm Tactics at all. Enhanced Scopes affects the Activation phase while Swarm Tactics affects the Combat Phase.

I also don't understand this upgrade. Why would it help a shuttle? I believe they even designed it mostly for the shuttle.

It also lets you get Kagi into a better position to intercept target locks of ships with lower PS than his. It could also be useful on Yorr. He can move into range of where your other ships will be getting stress before they take red moves and his very predictable green moves can't be blocked. Yorr's PS is low enough that this probably won't come into play as frequently as it would on Kagi.

It could potentially be cool on Zertik Strom with Intimidate to make him a blocker that debuffs the ships he blocks. That will probably be more gimmicky than it is useful though.

One of those is combat phase, and the other activation phase, so you can't combo them.

I have considered the following list:

IG-88C (probably) with Enhanced Scopes, Intimidation and Inertial Dampeners

5 x Z

The Aggressor gets in the way and blocks while the Z's take out the gimped target who ran into the Aggressor. Of course you could do mostly the same thing with Advanced Sensors, but it is more expensive, and cuts down the number of Z's to 4.

Tie Phantoms with Intel Agent. Makes a great stalker/assassin build with the new decloak rules. Echo will love this. Or throw it on a sigma with decoy so after it moves it borrows a higher pilot skill from someone like Vader or Chirpy with VI.

Cheaper Adv Sensors on the shuttle, makes it unblockable. Also useful on the 6-Sigma phantom, especially pre-cloak change as it can maneuver into blocking position with Intel Agent (and still gets its attack, so it's not a 27 point blocker). With the cloak change it's still good but you can pull some blocking tricks with the decloak anyway.

Something running Enhanced Scopes can't be blocked (except by the changed Phantom decloak) and can be used to block even a PS1 TIE swarm. The large base of the Shuttle means it block a lot of area allowing it to block multiple ships or cover multie possible maneuvers from a single ship.

A Sigma can't take an EPT, none of the generic phantoms can.

My one tournament win thus far included Enhanced Scopes. Kagi with it and Anti-Pursuit Lasers went bowling for B-Wings. :P

Who has played kagi? He's fun.

And here I was thinking Enhanced Scopes might actually be useful for the ships with which the cards came! Dumb idea, huh? Who uses this on B-Wings, and why were two cards included when there is only one ship with one system upgrade in the box? Wouldn't replacing at least one with Advanced Sensors have been a much better idea?

I think it would be a fine upgrade if it was optional. Deciding at the start of the activation phase would've made it worthwhile. As it stands, it's situationally useful, but more often than not it's detrimental.
