2 x Cores plus ships or 1 x core plus wave 1.

By Asmodi, in Star Wars: Armada

Hi folks.

Im considering buying into Armada now I hear all the positive things about it although I was curious about something.

I was looking at buying 1 x Core plus 1 each of VCD, NEB, CR90, Assault Frigate and Gladiator.

However I then discovered for the exact same price I can get 2 x Core plus 1 each of Assault Frigate and Gladiator.

Now by going the 2 x core route I get extra dice, extra fighters etc.

Here is my question though.

Does the expansions of the VCD, CR90 and NEB contain items that are not in the core set even though those ships are present?

My gut instinct and going by Xwing expansions I would say there are things in the expansions of those ships that are not available in the core set.

Could someone enlighten me please?

Thanks

Has the full card lists for each of the expansions. The simple answer is yes the Wave One expansions have cards that are not in the coreset that it is probably a good idea for you to have.

I'm in the same boat. I already have the core set but I'm saving up for wave 1. I would really love to get a second core set for all the extras like dice and maneuver tool, but then I would miss out on all the new cards in the expansions.

I'm guessing you're doing the online discount buy or something, because a VSD and Neb and CorVette are $20 cheaper (US) than a core set, brides the actual new cards that only come in the expansions. And speaking of those cards, the Title Cards alone make the expansions must buys to me. Salvation with X19 Turbolasers on a NebFF is so good.

The Nebulon-B and the VSD both have Intel Officer, the VSD has Flight Controller, and then there are titles.

The bonus of 2 core sets are 2 sets of dice, range rulers, tokens, maneuver tool, etc

2 Cores, Assault Frigate, and a Gladiator won't give you the same cards as 1 core set and all the wave 1 ships.

The only reason you should buy a 2nd core set is if you want 3 VSD's, Neb B's and CR-90's. If you don't want 3 of all of those then you're better off buying the expansions.

Go with 1 core and wave 1. Buy a dice pack and all you will be missing from the core that you might need is the movement template and range ruler.

I highly Suggest 1 Core + 1 of each Wave 1. This is enough to play the game and not be disadvantaged in anyway. If you want to skew that's on you. The only thing I would suggest multiples of is the Squadron packs. Also more dice never hurts.

I bought 2 cores. I should have waited for the Wave 1 stuff as I am regretting buying the second core.

Personally I think 2 Cores + 1 each of Wave 1 is a good start.

It's what I did, and even with that I think I'm going to need to double up on the advanced fighters and will be picking up an additional Gladiator and CR90.

Chiming in. I had 2 cores off the bat basically.

I have only bought the CR90, Assault Frigate, and Gladiator from Wave 1.

I can't really see myself shelling for the 3rd VSD/Neb.

At this point, I'd suggest getting 1 core and snag up the Wave 1's. Unless you really have some dedicated peoples to play with you'll be sitting on plastic.

Much peace,

My main issue with having two cores is I now have so ... many ... TIE Fighters. It's really ridiculous. But as I got one core for free with store credit and the other for $60 from Think Geek, I don't feel like I wasted any money.

I bought one of each of the Wave 1 ships that did not come in the core, and will probably add the core ships later.

1 core + 1 or more of wave 1. This is what I did, no regrets.

1x Core and 1 of each for wave 1 with the exception of the fighter packs (2) and Spacewhale (2)

2 of each except the Gladiator. (I have doubts if a second is effective) But I certainly might get me a 2nd Gladiator too.

don't buy 2 cores, i did out of boredom of playing 180 pts. and now i think i'll ge rid of one.

If you want 3 of the ships in the core, buy 2. If you know you don't want 3 of those ships, stick with 1 core and get the expansions.

Considering 1 core set of armada cost twice as much as a core set for x-wing (or so) I would go with only 1 core set.

Removed my post.

Misread the question.

Yeah same! Wish I'd saved my money, but at least we have extra dice and ships if we ever need them I guess. I might give my second core away to a friend.

One core plus Wave one.

Decided to just order 1 x Core plus 1 of everything else.

Will hopefully get a few demo games over the weekend.
