Influence making enhanced leader redundant ?

By player644224, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

I don't understand why the Enhanced Leader talent (in the Guardian : Peacekeeper specialization tree) exist, when the influance power has an upgrade with the same effect (allowing to use Force rank on leadership check).

The only reason I can see would be that the two effect could stack, but I doubt that the case...

Am I missing something ?

Not all peacekeepers want or need the Influence power. It gives you options. Also, the Influence upgrade is kind of far down the tree, so would cost a hefty bit of XP if all you wanted was to buff your Leadership skill.

Many force specializations include weaker/more specialized forms of a Force Power, it's meant to give you access to the power for a cheaper cost overall if you would otherwise intend to not invest in the normal Power. And you are correct, they don't stack.

EldritchFire's pretty much on the nose.

Influence is nice and covers a lot of things, but not every PC is going to want to buy that power, or spend the XP necessary to get that one specific ability when they could instead be spending their XP on skill ranks or purchasing additional talents.

There's a talent in EotE called Overwhelm Emotions, which again does much the same as the Influence Control Upgrade but has a drawback of adding failures depending on what skill was being used and what Force pips came up. So Enhanced Leader isn't the first instance of a talent being a lesser version of an existing Force power.

Though by that logic, the Enhance power makes the Conditioned talent fairly redundant, since adding your Force dice to an Athletics or Coordination check is far better than simply removing setback dice.

Conditioned also reduces fall damage/strain, so there's that. The Enhance power is active , while the conditioned talent is passive . Slight difference, but important.

Was being on the snarky side of things with that remark about Enhance and Conditioned ;)

Well, don't I just feel like a trained chimp in a zoo. Sorry about that, sir. >_<

No problem EldritchFire. On re-reading my initial response, that last bit could easily be taken out of the intended context. So no harm, no foul.
