Haven't seen a whole lot of play with this upgrade card, and I want it to find a home.

Initially, my thought was to put it on lower PS ships that are only throwing two attack anyway, so the odds of only one focus coming up is higher. But there are so many other good upgrade cards for those types of ships (PTL, DTF etc) that I just don't see this catching on.

Then I was thinking recon spec Mandalorians. But, I tried that to no great effect. You end up using them for defense because of when you shoot back at PS 5, and again, so many better upgrades to put in there instead (predator or VI)

Then I was reading about Aaron Bonar's Palob, and it gave me an idea. Might not be the most excellent build, but if you don't have points for opportunist its so crazy it just might work.

Consider this:

Palob, Calculation, Blaster turret, Recon Spec, Moldy Crow, EU (possibly).

Calculation doesn't state that you only have to use its ability once per turn (unless that's FAQed somewhere), so with a boatload of focus tokens you could change EVERY focus to a crit.

Anyway, it's not meta defining but could be fun in a game to roll 3 focuses and spend 3 to turn into 3 crits. Mostly just to see the look on your opponents face .

Green Squad Pilots might make a good home for Calculation. They can take 2 EPTs and having a cheap one like Calculation lets them fill both slots without getting too expensive. They are too low of a PS to really benefit from VI and don't have enough hull to get much out of Determination. Deadeye is worthless since the only ordnance an A-Wing is likely to be carrying is a Proton Rocket. Draw Their Fire might be useful in the right squad but in general Rebels are better off with DTF on something that can regen shields. That leaves you with Adrenaline Rush and Calculation. Adrenaline Rush lets you surprise an opponent by K-Turning while stressed or to follow up a K-Turn with a barrel-roll. Like you mentioned, Calculation is a good fit for ships with two attack dice because most of the time when spending a focus on attack you are only flipping one eyeball over anyways.

With Autothrusters, Refit, Calculation, and either Outmaneuver or PTL, a Green Squad Pilot comes in at 23 points. While it's not ridiculously cheap it might make a nice addition to a list that is looking for an annoying flanker.

Black Squad Pilots are also another decent home for Calculation. They come in at 15 points each. You could take 3 of them, Howlrunner with Swarm Tactics, and a loaded Maarek Stele for a crit happy list. Howl and a BSP would fire before Maarek, giving him a good chance of getting a crit through.

Marksmanship is less flexible. If you only roll a single eyeball, Marksmanship has the same impact as Calculation. If you don't roll any eyeballs on your attack roll, Marksmanship is a wasted action. I'd only consider taking Marksmanship on Scum Fett if I was also taking Gunner.

I've found that having the extra token considerably extends the life of my Firesprays. I pretty much always use Recon Specialist as crew on my Firesprays unless I'm flying Scum and taking Enginer Upgrade. In that case I'll be rolling with a K4 Security Droid for actionless attack modification.

Sounds like your dice suck; not the action. You could very well roll no foci on your evade roll, too.

Marksmanship gets a lotta flak. It's not useless. Like previously mentioned, it gives an alternate means of putting crits in your rolls. At the risk of derailing the discussion about Calculation, which is, in essence, a watered-down Marksmanship, look at it on Corran. Good for both attacks. Same with Cluster Missiles, which are about to be more prominent.

But there's the rub. Unless you are attacking twice, Marksmanship is rarely worth it. Too bad the EPT slot is so hard to come by on Y-wings. It might have some better uses with the title. For 1 point Calculation is just so much better. Marksmanship is one of those older cards that FFG overcosted a bit. At 3 points its in the PTL/Predator range where it just can't compete. I'd rather run PTL on Corran any day of the week.

Having multiple attacks in one round is generally what most people consider Marksmanship's only redeeming value (outside of trolling your friend that always runs Carnor and Dark Curse).

It's definitely most useful on a guy who's typically gonna get focus actions. For one point I also think it's a pretty cost-efficient card. The problem is that it eats up your EPT and there are typically better ones out there. Guys like Palob and Kyle Katarn make the most sense, but Palob is also pretty good with Opportunist. I've also put it on Vessery before and had it do alright. Boba and Green Squads are interesting they would seem like an alright fit as well I think.

Ten Numb, Maarek Stele (w/ATC), and Imperial Kath could also all make decent use out of Calculation. Bossk looks like he'll work well with it also.

I like Calculation with Greedo on the HWK. Turn one hit to a crit, turn the other to damage which would flip up a crit.

Even with 3 dice, it's about 5:1 odds against having multiple focus results (a 15.6% chance).
